Giordano Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Watertown, Mass., sophomore honored after breakout week for #4 Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2013) – Stonehill College sophomore forward Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's field hockey Rookie of the Week by the league office this afternoon.

Giordano, who earns the weekly honors for the first time, helped lead Stonehill to a 2-0 week, extending its program-best start to 10-0 with a pair of NE-10 victories. She totaled six points with three goals over the Skyhawks two wins against No. 9 Bentley University and Assumption College. Giordano opened the week with a go-ahead goal in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win at Bentley, with her goal capping a three-goal run for the Skyhawks in the span of five minutes that turned a 2-0 halftime deficit into a 3-2 lead. She posted her first career multi-goal game with a pair of first half markers in Friday night's 3-1 win over Assumption.

Giordano, who did not appear in any games as a freshman in 2012, is tied for third on the team this season with ten points and second with her five goals, including one gamewinning goal. She has scored a goal in three-straight games heading into this week's action after netting her first career goal in a 4-2 NE-10 win over Saint Michael's College on September 14. Giordano shares the team lead with four goals and eight points in the Skyhawks four NE-10 games this season.

Stonehill (10-0, 3-0 NE-10), ranked fourth in last week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, is back in action with a pair of home games this week, starting on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Anselm College for an NE-10 matchup at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks wrap up the week by hosting Adelphi University for a league clash on Saturday at noon.
