Stonehill Shuts Out Saint Michael’s, 3-0

Ford notches goal and assist, Genovese second career shutout

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2012) – Stonehill College got back in the win column with a decisive 3-0 victory over Saint Michael's College in non-conference field hockey action at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Senior Brittany Ford (Augusta, Maine/Cony) recorded a goal and assist for Stonehill as three different players scored goals, while sophomore Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) posted her second career shutout with five saves. Senior Chelsea Fizell (Cotuit, Mass./The Berkshire School) and sophomore Emily Sideris (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) also netted goals for the Skyhawks.

Sophomore Jackie Chisholm (New Braintree, Mass./Quabbin Regional) posted 11 saves in 58:02 in goal for Saint Michael's. Classmate Sarah Healey (Canton, Mass./Canton) came off the bench to stop four shots over the final 11:58. Stonehill finished with a 24-7 advantage for shots in the contest, including 14-1 in the second half, and held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners.

Sideris put Stonehill on the scoreboard with 5:11 to play in the first half as she knocked in a loose ball off a rebound in a scramble in front of the cage for her third goal of the season. The Skyhawks doubled their lead at 45:49 as Ford netted her fifth of the year off a rebound. She then set up Stonehill's final tally of the day when Fizell knocked in her cross from the right side at 52:46 for her second goal of the fall.

Stonehill (4-5, 0-2 NE-10) is right back in action on Monday as it wraps up a string of five games in nine days by hosting Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 4 p.m. Saint Michael's (2-8, 0-2 NE-10) hosts American International College next Saturday at 2 p.m.
