Roth nets four goals, Lawville seven points to spark Warriors to win

Sophomore Jessica Lawville (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) posted seven points with three goals and an assist and played a role in each of East Stroudsburg's last two goals that forced overtime and then produced the game-winner. Her goal 2:46 into overtime, assisted by senior Lauren Ventrella (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), lifted the Warriors to the win. Lawville also set up freshman Ally Roth (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) for her fourth goal of the game with 1:45 left in regulation to force overtime.

Ventrella and senior Alyson Becker (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) each chipped in with two assists for East Stroudsburg. Freshman Alexis Charles (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) picked up the win in goal for the Warriors with seven saves over the final 40:21 of the contest. Senior Sarah Dobroskey (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) played the first 23:25 and also finished with seven stops.

Senior Brittany Ford (Augusta, Maine/Cony) led Stonehill with two goals and an assist for five points. Junior Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) added two goals, while juniors Kelly Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and Kelsey Davis (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) each chipped in with a goal.

Sophomore Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) posted eight saves in 68:33 in the cage for Stonehill. The Skyhawks posted a 24-19 advantage in shots for the contest, including 14-8 in the first half, and edged East Stroudsburg in penalty corners, 13-11.

East Stroudsburg broke on top early with goals from Roth and Lawville less than two minutes apart in the opening 4:13 of the contest. Roth blasted a corner pass from Becker from the top of the arc past Stonehill senior starting goaltender Kaitlyn Curtis (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) 2:24 into the game. Lawville followed with her first of the game on a counterattack as she deked a defender and slotted a shot to Curtis' right side.

Stonehill bounced back with four-straight goals to take its first lead. Ingersoll netted both of her goals in the span of 1:36 to knot the score at 2-2. She blasted in her first goal from the top of the arc off a Ford corner pass that was stopped by senior Jessica Laurendeau (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) at 8:17. Ingersoll followed with a tip in on the right side for her fifth goal of the season at 9:53.

Davis put Stonehill in front when she tipped in a loose ball at the left post after a corner at the 13:41 mark. Ford gave the Skyhawks a two goal lead at 23:51 when she knocked in a rebound off a Dobroskey save off Ingersoll. East Stroudsburg cut the lead to a goal before halftime when Lawville knocked in a loose ball on the left side off a rebound at 25:02.

Ford put Stonehill back in front by two goals 1:26 into the second half as she knocked in a pass from junior Gina Sheehan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) at the left post for her fourth goal of the year.

East Stroudsburg rallied with two-straight goals from Roth to knot the score at 5-5. She one timed a pass from Ventrella from the left side of the scoring area at 37:07 and then buried a corner pass from Becker at 51:56.

Gouveia put Stonehill back in front with 13:20 to play as she tipped in an attempt from sophomore Emily Sideris (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) at the right post for her second goal of the year. Roth then forced overtime when she redirected a drive from outside the arc by Lawville over Genovese's shoulder with 1:45 left in regulation.

East Stroudsburg followed with the winning goal 2:46 into overtime on the counterattack. Ventrella connected with Lawville, who spun past a defender and finished with a shot to the lower right corner of the goal.

Stonehill (2-2, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Adelphi University for a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday, September 15, to host Bellarmine University on "National Field Hockey Day" at noon. East Stroudsburg (2-1, 0-0 PSAC) returns home to host LIU-Post for its Conference opener on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
