Stonehill Tops Saint Anselm, 3-1

Ingersoll double leads Skyhawks to second-straight win

EASTON, Mass. (September 6, 2012) – Stonehill College kept on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over Saint Anselm College in non-conference field hockey action at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this evening.

Junior Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) led Stonehill with two goals, while senior Brittany Ford (Augusta, Maine/Cony) added a marker as well. Senior Jessica Laurendeau (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and junior Emily Coholan (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) each chipped in with assists.

Senior Kaitlyn Curtis (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) went the distance in goal for Stonehill and made two saves to preserve the Skyhawks second-straight win. The Skyhawks posted a 24-8 advantage for shots and 21-10 edge for penalty corners on the night.

Freshman Canada Stewart (Lynnfield, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) netted her first collegiate goal for Saint Anselm. Senior Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass./Thayer Academy) posted eight saves, including seven in the first half, for the Hawks.

Ingersoll put Stonehill up early with her first goal of the night as she worked a give and go off a penalty corner with Laurendeau before driving a shot into the right side of the cage 2:46 into the game. Ford doubled the Skyhawks lead when she knocked in a rebound 5:31 into the second half for her second marker of the season.

Ingersoll gave Stonehill a three goal lead just 1:22 later with a drive from the upper left corner of the arc off a pass from Coholan from the middle after a corner at 41:53. Stewart broke up Stonehill's bid for a second-straight shutout as she tipped in a cross from the left side by senior Kristina Katsikis (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) at 49:08.

Stonehill (2-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back at W.B. Mason Stadium on Sunday when it hosts East Stroudsburg University, ranked No. 9 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, at 1 p.m. Saint Anselm (0-3, 0-0 NE-10) hosts American International College on Saturday at noon.
