Huskies net three first half goals to key win in Skyhawks opener
Senior Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) recorded a five point day with two goals and an assist to lead Bloomsburg to the win. Classmate Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) also netted two goals, while her sister Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) added a goal and assist. Freshman Kara Hartman (York Haven, Pa./Redland) chipped in with her first collegiate goal for the Huskies.
Junior Megan Eppley (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) recorded six saves to preserve the win in goal for Bloomsburg. Senior Kaitlyn Curtis (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) played 63:07 in the cage for Stonehill and finished with two first half saves. Shots finished even at 13-13 with Stonehill posting a 9-5 edge after halftime. The Skyhawks also held the advantage for penalty corners at 11-8, including 9-2 after the intermission.
Junior Emily Coholan (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) and sophomore Emily Sideris (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) each scored second half goals for Stonehill as it attempted to mount a second half rally.
Cassie DiSabatino and Aulenbach each registered goal and assist to lead Bloomsburg to the 3-0 first half lead. Aulenbach opened the scoring 4:08 into the game with a drive from the top of the arc off a corner that took a deflection into the top of the cage. Jenna DiSabatino doubled the Huskies lead at 13:05 off a feed from junior Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, N.J./Eastern). Cassie DiSabatino capped the first half scoring off a pass from Aulenbach with 9:59 left in the frame.
Stonehill struck first in the second half as Coholan scored on a drive from the top of the circle off a touch from senior Jessica Laurendeau (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) from junior Kelsey Davis' (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) corner 10:27 into the second. Bloomsburg followed with two straight goals from Aulenbach and Hartman to open a 5-1 advantage. Aulenbach's penalty stroke goal came just 1:03 after Coholan's marker.
Sideris took a pass from freshman Erika Kelly (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) for Stonehill's second of the day with 1:41 to play, but Bloomsburg capped the scoring just 17-seconds later with Jenna DiSabatino's second of the game with 1:24 left.
Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it visits American International College for a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Thursday to host Saint Anselm College in non-conference play at W.B. Mason Stadium at 6 p.m. Bloomsburg (2-0, 0-0 PSAC) is right back in action at Saint Anselm College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
