Masionis nets two goals to lead Yellow Jackets to victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 4, 2011) – American International College remained perfect in Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Ronald J. Abdow Field this afternoon.

Freshman Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) scored a pair of goals to lead American International to its third NE-10 win of the season. The Yellow Jackets also got a goal from junior Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional).

Senior goaltender Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls) preserved the win with eight saves in the cage for American International, which finished with a 20-15 advantage for shots in the match. The Yellow Jackets posted 11 penalty corners to two for Stonehill. Freshman Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) matched her season-high with ten saves for the Skyhawks.

Freshman Jennifer Foley (Holden, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) scored the lone goal for Stonehill.

American International jumped out in front with a pair of goals less than four minutes apart. Duckles opened the scoring at 19:54 with her fourth goal of the season, before Masionis doubled the Yellow Jackets lead at 23:53.

Stonehill struck back before halftime with Foley's fifth marker of the year at 29:37. However, Masionis regained AIC's two goal cushion with her second goal of the day (sixth of the season) at 58:58 that sealed the win.

Stonehill (5-7, 0-4 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Assumption College for an NE-10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. American International (8-3, 3-0 NE-10) visits Bentley University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
