Otis collects goal and assist, while Bergquist posts eight save shutout 

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2011) – Merrimack College, ranked sixth in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, scored twice in the second half to break open a 3-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Junior goaltender Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee) made eight saves to post her seventh shutout of the season and lead Merrimack to the win. Sophomore Jessica Otis (Pittsford, N.Y./East Rochester) collected a goal and assist for the Warriors who also got goals from senior Sarah Salatto (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and junior April Daugherty (Wakefield, R.I./Lincoln).

Freshman Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md./North Harford) and junior Kaitlyn Curtis (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) split the goaltending duties for Stonehill. Genovese made five saves over the first 55:17, while Curtis stopped both shots on goal she faced in the final 14:43. Merrimack finished with a slight 16-15 edge in shots for the contest, while Stonehill dominated penalty corners, 13-5 (11-3 second half).

Daugherty opened the scoring at 19:47 with her 11th goal of the season as she one timed a pass from the left side by junior Elizabeth Lincoln (Mount View, Maine/Mount View) into the right side of the net. The Warriors doubled their lead 4:01 into the second half as Otis drove a rebound into the goal for her fifth marker of the season. Otis then set up the final goal of the contest at 51:26 when her blast from the top of the arc off a corner was tipped into the cage by Salatto.

Stonehill (5-6, 0-3 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it visits American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday, October 8, to host Assumption College for an NE-10 match at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Merrimack (10-1, 4-0 NE-10) visits No. 10 Bentley University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
