#6 Stonehill Shuts Out Southern Connecticut State, 2-0

Osier stops five shots on her way to sixth shutout of the year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (November 6, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, posted its second-straight shutout victory with a 2-0 decision over Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Jess Dow Field this afternoon.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) made five saves to preserve her second-straight shutout victory and her sixth of the season overall (17th career) to lead Stonehill to its tenth win over its last 11 outings. The Skyhawks finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots for the afternoon and a 12-9 margin for penalty corners.

Stonehill got goals from senior back Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) and junior forward Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) in the win. Seniors Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area) and Lauren Gifford (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown) and freshman Kelsey Davis (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) all dished assists for the Skyhawks.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Zarrella (Morris, Conn./Wamogo) registered eight saves in the cage for Southern Connecticut State in the game.

Nelson put Stonehill in front early with her team-leading 18th goal of the year, assisted by Davis, just 2:02 into the game. The Skyhawks were unable to pull away, with Foley adding her fifth goal of the year off a penalty corner by Pinkham and fed by Gifford with 8:53 remaining in regulation to seal the victory.

Stonehill (13-5, 8-1 NE-10) closes out the regular season on Wednesday when it visits Assumption College for a Northeast-10 matchup at 4 p.m. Southern Connecticut (8-10, 6-3 NE-10) rounds out the regular season at Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
