The Skyhawks are looking to shake off a hard-fought 27-7 setback to league-leading LIU Post last weekend, while the Owls seek their first NE10 win after a tough 37-18 loss to cross-town rival University on New Haven on Saturday. He's HonoredJunior defensive back Ryan Shuts (Mount Laurel, N.J.) earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday for his efforts in Saturday night's setback to LIU Post. He posted a career-high 11 tackles (eight solo) and a pass breakup to help a solid defensive effort for the Skyhawks, with his eight solo tackles also mark a career-best and he also averaged 23-yards on three kick returns on special teams. 
In Memory of Rick Susi '89Former Stonehill football captain Rick Susi, '89's number 54 jersey was formally hung in his memory in the coaches' suite in a ceremony following practice Thursday night. Rick's widow, Kelly, and daughter, Bella '21, were on hand for the unveiling, with son, RJ '20 joining via Facetime while studying abroad, and blessing by athletic chaplain, Fr. Matt Fase. CSC. In addition to the 54 jersey hanging in the suite, a scholarship in Susi's honor has been established. Susi was a captain on Stonehill's first varsity team in 1988, regarded as a fierce competitor and consistent standout on the defensive side of the ball. He led by example and made Stonehill proud with his accomplishments on and off of the gridiron. After graduating, he pursued a career in construction sales and was the "quintissential family man." After surviving cancer, Rick's life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident in August, 2002. 
Welcome to the Team, Danny!The Stonehill football team welcomed a new teammate during a Team IMPACT draft ceremony inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex on Friday night prior to its Saturday night matchup with LIU Post. 11-year-old Danny Stephenson, the son of Lori and Scott Stephenson of Plymouth, Massachusetts, joined the team officially during the signing day ceremony. Danny was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 and continues to battle through his treatments, with the new encouragement of his Skyhawks teammates. He served as honorary captain on Saturday night and took part in the opening coin toss. Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit headquartered in Boston, MA that connects children facing serious or chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Bird Battles Southern Connecticut State holds a 20-2 advantage in the all-time series, but since the Owls 45-21 win over Stonehill in 2010, the eight games leading up to tonight's matchup have been decided by an average of just 8.1 points, despite a 45-26 SCSU triumph in Easton, Massachusetts, last fall. Both of the Skyhawks wins in the series have come over the last eight encounters, posting a 13-0 triumph in the first of two meetings in 2012 and adding a 23-21 victory here at Jess Dow Field in 2013. 2,000-yard Man Junior Andrew Jamiel (Yarmouth, Mass.) became just the fourth receiver in program history to surpass 2,000 career yards after his six catches for 48 yards against LIU Post on Saturday night. He ranks fourth in program history with his 2,037 yards on 187 receptions in 22 career games. Jamiel enters tonight 201 yards behind Dan Cahill '96 for third all-time, while his 187 career receptions rank second all-time, just nine shy of the career record of 196 catches by Nate Robitaille '14. Aye, Aye Captains Seniors Mike Cordova (Oceanport, N.J.), John Ejiofor (Burlington Township, N.J.), Vandy Hall (Ewing, N.J.) and James Lam (Quincy, Mass.) have been elected captains by their teammates and the coaching staff for the 2018 season. It marks the first time Stonehill has had four captains since 2016 and the second-straight year it has had a two-year captain with Ejiofor returning as a captain for the second-straight season.
