New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award Announcement
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (November 8, 2017) – Stonehill College sophomore wide receiver Andrew Jamiel (Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) received the New England Football Writers Weekly Gold Helmet Award for Divisions II and III, sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame, at the New England Football Writers weekly luncheon at Dillon Fieldhouse on the campus of Harvard University today.
Jamiel is the second Stonehill sophomore to receive the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet Award over the last three weeks, joining running back Brian Kearns, Jr. (North Arlington, New Jersey/Saint Joseph Regional), who was named following his career-high 243-yard and two touchdown performance against rival Bentley University. It also marks the third time in program history Stonehill has collected the weekly Gold Helmet Award twice in one season after senior teammates Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/The Hill School) and Donovan Phanor (Portsmouth, New Hampshire/Portsmouth) accomplished the feat in 2015 and Tony Dello Iacono '95 and Mike McLucas '95 did so during the 1994 season. Jamiel is the first Stonehill wide receiver among the 11 total Gold Helmet Award recipients in program history.

Jamiel Featured in NCAA Division II Football Top Plays
Jamiel, named the NE10 Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career on Monday, broke one NE10 single-game record and matched another, in helping lead Stonehill to a 56-30 victory over Pace University at W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday. Jamiel set an NE10 record with 294 receiving yards, while matching the NE10 and program record with five touchdown catches, and matching his own program mark with 18 receptions. He opened the game with a 67-yard catch and run for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, before adding a five-yard touchdown catch later in the opening quarter. Jamiel added two 18-yard touchdown receptions in the second quarter, finishing the half with 180 yards and four touchdowns on 11 receptions, including 126 yards on seven catches and two scores in the first quarter alone. He capped his afternoon with a 14-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

Jamiel's five touchdowns match the top single-game total in Division II this season, matching the NE10 record set by Stonehill's Mike Plitcha '06 against Saint Anselm in 2005 and Bentley University's Dallas Mall in 2001. His yardage and reception totals are the second-highest in Division II this season, breaking Stonehill's single-game yardage record of 212 receiving yards by Brian Adamson against Merrimack College in 1996, and the NE10 mark of 269 yards by Merrimack's Isaiah Voegeli against Saint Anselm College in 2012. Jamiel also matched his own program record of 18 receptions set against the University of New Haven last season, just one shy of the NE10 record.
Jamiel has appeared in eight of Stonehill's nine games this fall, leading the NE10 with 70 receptions, 114.0 receiving yards per game and 12 touchdowns, while ranking third in scoring with 9.0 points per game. He ranks second nationally in Division II with 8.8 receptions per game and sixth for yards per game and receiving touchdowns, while ranking 25th in scoring. Jamiel has posted four 100-plus yard receiving games this season after posting his first career 200-yard game on Saturday, collecting 10-plus receptions twice this fall.
Jamiel enters this weekend's season finale ranked third on the program's all-time single-season list with 912 receiving yards, fourth with 70 receptions after matching the program record with a Division II-leading 91 catches his freshman season, and third with 12 touchdown receptions, which is one shy of the single-season receiving mark and two shy of the program record of 14 total touchdowns by Eddie Vachon '11 in 2010.
Jamiel has played 18 games over his Stonehill career to date, totaling 161 receptions for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 8.9 receptions and 97.5 receiving yards per game. He ranked seventh in program history for career receiving yards, fourth for career touchdowns – six shy of Nate Robitaille '15's career mark of 25 touchdown catches, and 35 receptions shy of Robitaille's career record of 196.
Jamiel, the 2016 NE10 Rookie of the Year and All-NE10 second team selection, owns four of the top five single-game reception totals in Stonehill history, having recorded double-figure reception totals eight times. He earned NE10 Rookie of the Week honors four times in 2016, earning NE10 Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the first time following his program-record 18-reception game against the University of New Haven on October 15, 2017, in a game broadcast live on ESPN3 through the NCAA Division II Game of the Week package, finishing with a season-high 169 yards and two touchdowns.
