Skyhawks among record 882 student-athletes from 280 institutions honored in tenth year of National Football Foundation's program

EASTON, Mass. (July 13, 2016) – A program-record five recent graduates of the Stonehill College football program have been named members of the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society for having maintained a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or higher throughout their college career.

Class of 2016 graduates Steve Grzywacz (Manchester, New Hampshire/Manchester Central), Ryan Hollis (Hawthorne, New Jersey/Hawthorne), Anthony Masucci (East Haven, Connecticut/Notre Dame-West Haven), Deontae Ramey-Doe (Dorchester, Massachusetts/BC High) and Joe Welch (Orlando, Florida/Bishop Moore Catholic) are among a record 882 student-athletes from 280 programs across all divisions of college football who have qualified for membership in the society's tenth year. Qualification for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include being a starter or significant contributor in one's last season of eligibility, achieving a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. Stonehill's five Hampshire Honor Society members from the Class of 2016 is the most since a record seven members from the Class of 2012.

Masucci, who was a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete candidate and William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist, headlines the Stonehill members after receiving the College's Edward E. Martin Male Scholar-Athlete Award this spring and was a finalist for the Northeast-10 Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The CoSIDA Academic All-America^® second team selection recently graduated with a 3.59 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. He finished his career as one of 17 student-athletes in the history of the football program to finish with over 200 career tackles and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District^™ first team honoree.

Masucci received the Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Scholar-Athlete Award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and is a two-time Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference selection, earning the NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for football as well last fall. He appeared in all 42 games of his four year football career at Stonehill, starting each of the final 22 games of his career. He helped lead the Skyhawks to a share of the 2013 NE-10 regular season championship and finished his career with 203 tackles (101 solo), including ten for a loss of 54 yards, five interceptions and ten pass breakups. Masucci has been named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester, is a Dean's List student and is a member of the Financial Management Association National Honor Society.

Grzywacz, who graduated with a 3.29 grade point average as an accounting major, enjoyed a record-breaking career at Stonehill as its placekicker. He was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll seven semesters and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters and volunteered with the Brockton High School chapter of "Let's Get Ready," a program that offers counseling and free SAT prep to students from low income families. He earned All-Northeast-10 second team honors as a freshman, was an NE-10 All-Rookie Team pick in 2012 and named to the Fred Mitchell Award Preseason Watch list leading into his junior year, collecting monthly Fred Mitchell Award recognition twice over the course of his career.

Grzywacz completed his career as Stonehill's all-time leading scorer with 212 points, also setting career records with 113 career PATs and 33 field goals.  He also holds program marks for career PAT attempts (128) and field goal attempts (53), while ranking fourth all-time for PAT percentage (.883) and second for field goal percentage (.623). Grzywacz converted a school-record 37 PATs in 2013 and a record 11 field goals as a freshman in 2012, while his 61 points scored in 2013 ranks eighth all-time at the College. He boasts three of the top ten single-season PAT totals and four of the top ten field goal totals, including the top three, in program history.

Hollis, who graduated with a 3.45 grade point average as a biology major, appeared in 42 games over his collegiate career as a linebacker, rover and special teams member. He earned a spot on the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters and served as the team's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Hollis finished his career with 90 tackles, including 43 solo, with 7.5 tackles for a loss of 27 yards with 1.5 sacks for a loss of ten, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and pass breakup.

Ramey-Doe graduated with a 3.28 grade point average as a dual major in criminology and Spanish. The tailback was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all eight semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll seven semesters. He finished his career with 529 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 41 career games. Ramey-Doe also collected 15 receptions for another 57 yards to finish with 586 all-purpose yards, while chipping in with eight tackles (six solo) on special teams for his career. He rushed for a career-high 139 yards on 29 carries in a 23-16 win at Saint Anselm College as a junior.

Welch graduated with a 3.40 grade point average as a finance major and history minor. The offensive lineman was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all eight semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll six semesters. He appeared in six games over his Stonehill career, including four as a senior, as part of an offensive line which has annually ranked among the NE-10 leaders for pass protection stats.

Stonehill, which posted a 7-4 record overall in 2015, including 5-4 in the NE-10, will open its 2016 schedule on Friday, September 2, when it hosts perennial regional power Bloomsburg (Pa.) University as part of Skyhawks Kickoff Weekend at 6 p.m.
