Foltz Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, freshman quarterback honored after collegiate debut

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman quarterback Matt Foltz (Mount Joy, Pennsylvania/Donegal) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week in football by the league office today.

Foltz steered the Stonehill offense in his collegiate debut to a 23-16 victory over Saint Anselm College in the ninth annual "Battle for the Ol' Bronze Hawk" in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Saturday. He registered 199 total yards and played a role in all three touchdowns in the win as he completed 13-of-16 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, while adding another 24 yards and a score on ten carries, posting a 214.38 passer rating.

Foltz's first career touchdown pass was a 28-yard completion to senior Nate Robitaille (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) in the second quarter that put Stonehill in front 9-3 on its way to a 16-3 halftime lead. Foltz added a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior Zaire Reiph (Norwalk, Connecticut/Saint Luke's School) in the second quarter and then scored his first career touchdown with a one-yard quarterback keeper for a 23-3 Skyhawks lead in the third quarter.

Foltz, who prepped at The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, is the second Stonehill student-athlete to earn Rookie of the Week honors from the NE-10 after junior linebacker Peter Catal (Cornwall, New York/Cornwall) was cited following week six. Foltz is the fourth Skyhawks quarterback to start under center this season and the fourth to earn a win in his first collegiate start over the last two seasons.

In addition to Foltz's Rookie of the Week selection, Robitaille and fellow seniors Sterry Codrington (Freehold, New Jersey/Freehold Boro), Nate Morris (Bristol, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) and Taylor Russell (Keene, New Hampshire/Keene) were all named to the Northeast-10's weekly honor roll for their efforts in Saturday's win.

Stonehill (4-5, 4-4 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it closes out the regular season by hosting Assumption College for Senior Day at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. The Skyhawks can move up to the No. 4 seed for NE-10 Championship weekend the following week with a win over the Greyhounds, but would be seeded fifth or sixth with a loss.
