Harrington Collects Third NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week Award

Rockland, Mass., junior linebacker honored for second-straight week and third time in four weeks

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2013) – Stonehill College junior linebacker Brian Harrington (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week by the league office for the second-straight week and third time over the opening four weeks of the season.

Harrington led a Stonehill defense that forced four turnovers and recorded six sacks in Saturday night's dominating 30-3 victory over rival Bentley University at W.B. Mason Stadium. The Skyhawks held Bentley to 1-for-9 on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth with Harrington posting double-figure tackles for the fourth time in as many games. He finished with a game-high 13 stops, including six solo, with 1.0 tackles for a loss of three yards as Stonehill held the Falcons to their lowest point total since a 29-3 loss at Bryant University in 2007 and their lowest in series history against the Skyhawks. Harrington also earned a spot on the NoontimeSports.com New England Football Weekly Honor Roll for the third time for his efforts.

Harrington leads Division II with 56 tackles, ranking tenth nationally with a Conference-best 29 solo stops. He also leads the NE-10 for tackle assists (27) and has also recorded 3.0 tackles for a loss of 11 yards, with 1.0 sacks for a loss of six and a forced fumble. Harrington has reached double-figures for tackles in all four games since moving into the starting lineup this season, leading the Skyhawks in tackles every weekend.

Harrington, who earned the Skyhawks' Special Teams MVP award following his sophomore season, has appeared in 24 games over his career at Stonehill and totaled 81 tackles (43 solo), including 3.0 tackles for a loss of 11 yards, a sack and forced fumble. He has been recognized for his efforts in the classroom with NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all four semesters at the College as well as Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolades two semesters.

Stonehill (3-1, 3-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts preseason NE-10 favorites American International College (2-2, 2-1 NE-10) at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m.
