Equestrian Competes at Home and Bentley Shows

EASTON, Mass. (November 7, 2017)- The Stonehill College Equestrian team continued its fall schedule this past weekend with a first place result at its home show on Saturday and a third-place mark at the Bentley University show on Sunday.

At the conclusion of the weekend, Stonehill College and Boston University are tied for the regional lead with 100 points.

Stonehill Home Show

The Skyhawks tallied 41 points on Saturday at Winters End Farm in Stoughton, Massachusetts for their first high point performance of the season. Boston College followed Stonehill with the second-place finish, while Boston University took third place. With Stonehill's result, they took over the point lead in the region.

Stonehill took home eight blue ribbons, while two riders qualified for regionals. In intermediate fences, senior captain Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Bolyston) added to her many career first-place ribbons, as she placed first qualifying her for regionals, while sophomore Mariah Hanson (South Burlington, Vermont/South Burlington) finished fifth in novice fences, which also qualified her for regionals. Kimbar also finished second in intermediate flat.

Other first place results included sophomore Emma McConville (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Wheeler School) in open fences and classmate Kaitlin Kotfila (Hadley, Massachusetts/Hopkins Academy) in intermediate fences. McConville also tallied third place in open flat. Freshmen Kylie Katz (Northford, Connecticut/Lyman Hall) and Madison Roberts (East Hampton, Connecticut/East Hampton) took first place in their first IHSA shows in intermediate flat and walk, trot, canter, respectively.

Junior Rachel Scibek (Colchester, Vermont/Colchester) and freshman Molly McCutcheon (Florence, Massachusetts/Northampton) were awarded blue ribbons in novice fences and walk, trot, canter, respectively. Sophomore Laura Solar (Melville, New York/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) earned a first-place mark in novice flat.

Senior captain Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) competed in the novice flat class and placed third, while Junior Emma Gagnon (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Saint Mary Academy) placed fifth in her first IHSA show.

Bentley University Show

The Skyhawks also competed at Century Mills Stables in Bolton, Massachusetts, hosted by Bentley University, where Stonehill took home third overall which put them tied for first in the region with Boston University.

Stonehill took home two individual first-place ribbons, as Kotfila earned it in intermediate fences and Roberts placed first in walk, trot, canter. Gagnon earned the Skyhawks only second-place ribbon at the show in the walk, trot division.

Kimbar and Solar earned third place on Sunday, as Kimbar placed in intermediate flat and Solar in novice flat.

McConville finished fourth in open flat, while Hanson followed suit with a fourth-place result in intermediate fences for her first show in this division. Katz, Gorsky, and McCutheon also earned fourth in the show, as Katz placed in intermediate flat, Gorsky in novice fences, and McCutheon in walk, trot, canter.

Freshman Shannon Gorsky (Tolland, Connecticut/Tolland) also competed for the Skyhawks, as she placed fifth in novice fences.

Stonehill continues its schedule with back-to-back shows this weekend, starting with a show at Herringbrook Farm in North Pembroke, Massachusetts hosted by Mount Ida College on Saturday, November 11. The second show will be on Sunday, November 12 at the Hillside Meadow Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts, hosted by Boston College and Wellesley College.
