Equestrian Finishes Second at Bentley Show

Skyhawks finish season second in IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Ten riders qualify for Regional Championships next month

WESTFORD, Mass. (March 12, 2016) – The Stonehill College equestrian team rounded out its 2015-16 regional show season as reserve champions at the Bentley University show, hosted by Volo Farm. In addition to closing out the team portion of its schedule, ten riders have qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 Championships next month.

Stonehill finished Sunday's show at Bentley with 31 points to finish second to show winners Tufts University, who also took the Region 4 championship. The Skyhawks finished as reserve champions for Region 4, followed by third place Boston University.

Senior Fiona Carroll (Alexandria, Virginia/Bishop Ireton), junior Nina Fultz (Littleton, Massachusetts/Littleton) and sophomore Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) led Stonehill with their blue ribbon efforts at the Bentley show. Carroll won her intermediate flat class, while Fultz placed first for novice flat as both qualified for the regional championships with their points earned. Westerlind clinched a blue ribbon for the walk-trot-canter to earn her spot at regionals.

Senior Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester) and sophomore Megan Jordan (Stoneham, Massachusetts/Stoneham) placed second for walk-trot-canter with this being Jordan's first intercollegiate horse show, while Zamierowski, the 2014 IHSA National Champion for walk-trot, has qualified for regionals for the second time. Senior Erika Hayes (South Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) earned a red ribbon for her walk-trot equitation, while junior Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) also took second in open over fences as well as a third place show in intermediate equitation on the flat to qualify for nationals.

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday, April 2, for the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Championships, hosted by Boston University at Holly Hill Show Stables in Hanover, Massachusetts. Ten Stonehill riders have qualified for the Region 4 Championships from which the top two riders in each class will advance to the Zone 1 Championships.

Stonehill's regional qualifiers include: Seniors Carroll, Zamierowski, Laura Haynes (Avon, Connecticut/Avon) and Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton), juniors Torregiano and Kayla McNulty (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Academy of Notre Dame) and sophomores Westerlind and Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston).
