Equestrian Heads into Final Fall Show Ranked Second in Regional Standings

Skyhawks post second show win of the fall at Wellesley College Show 

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2015) – The Stonehill College equestrian team heads into its final show of the fall season this weekend in second place in the Intercollege Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings after posting a second show win of the season as well as a reserve champion showing over its last three shows.

After winning at Wellesley College on Sunday, Stonehill sits in second place in the regional standings with 200 points, trailing just Tufts University's 229 points. Boston University is third with 193 points 

Boston College/Tufts University

Stonehill was reserve champion at the Boston College/Tufts University show, hosted by Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts. The Skyhawks compiled 32 points to finish behind Tufts University's 41 points.

Junior Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) was reserve high point rider for the day as she turned in blue ribbon performances for intermediate equitation over fences and on the flat. Junior Fiona Carroll (Alexandria, Virginia/Bishop Ireton) also earned a first place ribbon in novice fences.

Senior Laura Haynes (Avon, Connecticut/Avon) placed second for open fences and third in open flat, while junior Kristen Buckley (Leominster, Massachusetts/Saint Bernard's) earned a red ribbon for beginner walk-trot-canter. Third place ribbons also went to junior Micaela Caulkins (Old Lyme, Connecticut/Old Lyme) for intermediate fences and senior Erika Hayes (South Yarmouth, Massachusetts/Dennis-Yarmouth) in walk-trot.

Stonehill College

Stonehill dipped to a seventh place team finish at its home show, hosted by Canton Equestrian Center, in Canton, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

Stonehill collected three blue ribbons in the novice class, with senior Shannon Aceto (Cranston, Rhode Island/La Salle Academy) and sophomore Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston) winning their novice flat classes. Senior Molly Machain (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) earned a blue ribbon for novice fences.

Laura Haynes posted a second place show for open flat, while placing fourth for open fences. Senior Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester) was third for walk-trot-canter, while Serafine Torregiano earned a yellow ribbon for intermediate flat. 

Wellesley College/Wheaton College

Stonehill earned the top spot at Sunday's Wellesley/Wheaton Show, hosted by Ridgetop Farm, in Holliston, Massachusetts, on Sunday. The Skyhawks earned 36 points for the afternoon to collect their second win of the fall after a first place show at Northeastern University on October 10. Tufts University was second and Mount Ida College third.

Micaela Caulkins and Serafine Torregiano led the blue ribbon winners for Stonehill in intermediate fences and flat, respectively. Baylee Kimbar took a first place ribbon in novice flat while senior Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) placed second and Shannon Aceto fifth in the event class.

Kimbar was also second for novice fences, while Fiona Carroll was fourth. Kristen Buckley took second in walk-trot-canter, while Laura Haynes placed third in open fences and fourth for open flat. 

Stonehill closes out its fall season on Saturday at the rescheduled Boston University Show, hosted by Holly Hill Show Stables, in Hanover, Massachusetts, at 9 a.m.
