Equestrian Enjoys Strong Weekend

Skyhawks win Northeastern Show on Saturday, place second at Brandeis Sunday 

EASTON, Mass. (October 13, 2015) – The Stonehill College equestrian team turned in two strong performances in a pair of Intercollege Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 events over the weekend.

Stonehill posted a first place finish at the Northeastern University show, hosted by River Wind Farm in Pembroke, Massachusetts, on Saturday and then followed that up with a second place effort at Sunday's Brandeis University Show, hosted by August Farm in Holliston, Massachusetts. 

Northeastern University

Stonehill collected seven blue ribbons on its way to 40 points for a first place team finish at Northeastern on Saturday. Boston University placed second with 32 points, while Tufts University took third with 32 points.

Senior Laura Haynes (Avon, Connecticut/Avon) and freshman Ashley Murray (Canton, Connecticut/Canton) led the first place winners for Stonehill in the open division. Haynes placed first for open equitation over the fences, while Murray earned a blue ribbon for open equitation on the flat. Haynes was also reserve champion for open flat, while Murray placed second for open fences.

Junior Micaela Caulkins (Old Lyme, Connecticut/Old Lyme) placed first for intermediate fences, while classmate Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) placed third for both intermediate fences and intermediate flat.

Senior Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Massachusetts/Canton) earned a blue ribbon for novice flat, while sophomore Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston) placed sixth. Senior Fiona Carroll (Alexandria, Virginia/Bishop Ireton) took home a third place show for novice fences.

Sophomore Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) finished first for advanced walk-trot-canter equitation, while senior Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester), the 2014 IHSA National Champion for walk-trot, earned a blue ribbon on Saturday in beginner walk-trot-canter. Junior Kayla McNulty (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts/Academy of Notre Dame) rounded out the Skyhawks first place winners with a blue ribbon show in walk-trot equitation. 

Brandeis University

Stonehill turned in another strong performance at Brandeis on Sunday with a second place finish with 37 points, led by four blue ribbon shows by its riders. Tufts took first place with 44 points, while Boston University was third with 33.

Micaela Caulkins, Emma Zamierowski and Kayla McNulty all repeated blue ribbon efforts from Saturday. Culkins placed first for intermediate fences for the second straight day, while Zamierowski repeated the effort in walk-trot-canter and McNulty in walk-trot. Junior Kristen Buckley (Leominster, Massachusetts/Saint Bernard's Central Catholic) earned a blue ribbon for walk-trot-canter in her first show in the class since moving up from walk-trot to round out the Skyhawks first place finishers on Sunday.

Laura Haynes placed third for open fences, while Ashley Murray was third for open fences and sixth for open flat. Serafine Torregiano added a fifth place show on Sunday for intermediate flat.

In the novice class, Baylee Kimbar earned red ribbons for second place shows in both novice fences and novice flat. Fiona Carroll was fourth for novice fences, while junior Shannon Aceto (Cranston, Rhode Island/La Salle Academy) placed sixth for novice flat.

Stonehill is back in action this Sunday, October 25, when it participates in the Boston College/Tufts University Show, hosted by Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts, at 9 a.m.
