Stonehill Places Second on Tiebreaker at Mount Ida/Wheaton

Skyhawk riders collect three blue ribbons, sit second in region 

EASTON, Mass. (November 3, 2014) – The Stonehill College equestrian team competed in an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 show hosted by Mount Ida College and Wheaton College at Ridgetop Farm in Holliston, Massachusetts, on Sunday.

Stonehill and Tufts University both finished with 39 points, but Tufts earned high point team by way of the third tiebreaker after both earned three first place ribbons and had two second place showings, before Tufts took the team win for points earned in over the fences competition. Tufts now holds a three point lead in the Region 4 standings with 142 points, with Stonehill second with 139 and Boston College third with 135.

Freshman Elizabeth Bennett (Slingerlands, New York/Academy of the Holy Names) earned a blue ribbon for Stonehill for the third straight show in novice equitation on the flat, while also placing sixth in her novice fences class. Sophomore Nina Fultz (Littleton, Massachusetts/Littleton) placed first in walk-trot-canter for the second straight show, while classmate Kristin Buckley (Leominster, Massachusetts/St. Bernard's) rounded out the first place performances for the Skyhawks in walk-trot.

Senior Danielle Franchi (Islip, New York/Islip) placed second for Stonehill in open equitation over the fences to go with a third place ribbon in open equitation on the flat. Senior Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vermont/Rutland) placed second for intermediate fences and fourth for her intermediate flat class. Freshman Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston) added a third place performance for the Skyhawks in novice fences.

Junior Rachel Fox (Smithfield, Rhode Island/Smithfield) also competed in open fences and open flat for Stonehill, placing fourth in both events.

Stonehill is back in action with a pair of shows this weekend hosted by Northeastern University on Saturday at River Wind Farm in Pembroke, Massachusetts, and then Boston College at Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts, on Sunday.
