Stonehill Competes at Boston University & Tufts Shows

Bennett earns blue ribbons for novice flat both days 

EASTON, Mass. (October 30, 2014) – The Stonehill College equestrian team competed at two shows over the weekend as it continued its Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 fall schedule. 

Boston University Show

Stonehill collected two blue ribbons as part of eight top three finishes at Saturday's show hosted by Boston University at Holly Hill Show Stables in Hanover, Massachusetts.

Senior Danielle Franchi (Islip, New York/Islip) placed first for open equitation over fences and also placed second for open equitation on the flat. Classmate Cassandra Otis (Downingtown, Pennsylvania/Bishop Shanahan) also competed in the open division with a fourth place show on the flat and fifth for fences.

Freshman Elizabeth Bennett (Slingerlands, New York/Academy of the Holy Names) earned a blue ribbon for novice flat to go with a second place finish in her novice fences class. Classmate Abigail Westerlind (Auburn, Massachusetts/Auburn) made her collegiate debut on Saturday and placed second for walk-trot-canter, while sophomore Kristin Buckley (Leominster, Massachusetts/St. Bernard's) was second in walk-trot.

Senior Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vermont/Rutland), a national qualifier who placed third nationally for novice fences last spring, competed in two intermediate class events with a second place showing on the flat and third over the fences.

Tufts University Show

Stonehill collected three more blue ribbons with their first place finishes at Sunday's show, hosted by Tufts University, at North Gate Farm in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

Freshman Baylee Kimbar (Worcester, Massachusetts/West Boylston) made the most of her collegiate debut with a first place finish in her novice fences class. Bennett earned her second blue ribbon of the weekend in novice flat for Stonehill. Rounding out the Skyhawks blue ribbon efforts on Sunday was sophomore Nina Fultz (Littleton, Massachusetts/Littleton) for walk-trot-canter.

Sophomore Taylor Uccello (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) placed second in her novice flat class, while McDonnell earned a third place showing for intermediate flat to her two ribbons on Saturday. Sophomore Serafine Torregiano (Saratoga Springs, New York/Saratoga Springs) placed third for her intermediate fences class, while senior Justine Mitchell (Sunderland, Massachusetts/Frontier Regional) followed up a fourth place finish on Saturday with third place for walk-trot-canter on Sunday.

Franchi posted a fourth place finish in her open fences class to go with a fifth place show in open flat. 

Stonehill has one show this weekend, hosted by Mount Ida College and Wheaton College, at Ridgetop Farm in Holliston, Massachusetts, on Sunday at 9 a.m.
