Zamierowski Captures Stonehill’s 7th National Championship

HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 2, 2014) – Stonehill College sophomore Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Massachusetts/Winchester) earned the seventh national championship in school history and fourth in equestrian to highlight a pair of top three finishes for the equestrian program at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships, hosted by Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, today.

Zamierowski wins the program's third individual title, by winning the individual walk-trot equitation blue ribbon on Friday. Holly Attuso from Louisiana State University is reserve champion, while Erin Pesa from Ohio State University finished third. Zamierowski's national championship is the first for the program since the team won the 2003 Hunter Seat Championship and first individual title since Kelly McDonald earned a blue ribbon for novice equitation over fences in 1997.

Junior Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vermont/Rutland) got Stonehill's weekend at Nationals off to a strong start with a third place finish in the individual novice equitation over fences. Deanna Zajic from Centenary College won the event championship, while Kendall Jones from the University of Florida is the reserve champion. McDonnell and Zamierowski were both making their debuts at the IHSA Nationals. McDonnell was reserve champion in Zone 1 to earn her trip to nationals, while Zamierwoski won the Zone 1 individual championship on her way to the national championship.

Stonehill sent five riders in seven events to the Zone 1 Championships last month and had eight qualifiers for the Zone 1, Region 4 Championships this spring.
