Stonehill Wraps Up Fall Regional Schedule in 5th Place

Skyhawks post third, fifth and sixth place performances last three point shows 

EASTON, Mass. (November 6, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team closed out its Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 show schedule in fifth place after posting a third, fourth and fifth place performance over its last three point shows of the fall season.

Stonehill sits in fifth place in the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 standings after five shows with 157 points. Boston University leads the Region with 192 points. 

Boston University/Worcester State Show

Stonehill placed third in the show held at Holly Hill Show Stables in Hanover, Mass.

Sophomore Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) led the way for Stonehill with a first place finish in walk trot equitation and qualified for the IHSA Zone 1, Region 1 Championships next spring. Senior Caitlin Wright (Old Lyme, Conn./Mercy) also collected a blue ribbon for her first place showing in walk-trot-canter.

Junior Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) placed second in her class for open equitation over fences, while also placing third for open equitation on the flat. Senior Amanda Horn (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) placed fourth for her open fences class.

Senior captain Kristen Stachnik (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) placed second for her class in intermediate equitation on the flat. Classmate Sara Kelly (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) placed third for intermediate equitation over the fences and on the flat. Junior Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) placed third for her novice flat class, while sophomore Dara D'Agostino (Canton, Mass./Canton) finished fourth in her novice fences class. 

Boston College Show

Stonehill followed up the BU/Worcester State show by finishing sixth at the Boston College Show, hosted by Saddle Row Farm in Medway, Mass. The Skyhawks registered 28 points, while Boston University won with 42 points and Mount Ida College placed second in the team standings.

Sophomore Shannon Aceto (Cranston, R.I./LaSalle Academy) impressed in her first collegiate show with a first place showing for novice equitation on the flat. Classmate Chloe Robertson (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) also earned a blue ribbon with a first place finish for walk-trot-canter equitation.

Sara Kelly placed second for intermediate fences, while Caitlyn Wright placed second for walk-trot canter. Danielle Franchi placed third for both open fences and open flat, while freshman Ashley Eng (New Milford, Conn./Nonnewaug) posted a third place showing in walk-trot equitation. 

Mount Ida Show

Stonehill closed out the fall schedule with a fifth place finish at the Mount Ida Show, hosted by Ridgetop Farm in Holliston, Mass., this past Sunday. The Skyhawks collected 25 points, while Boston University won the event with 41 points and Mount Ida placed second with 36.

Danielle Franchi led the way for Stonehill with a second place finish for open equitation over fences to go with a fourth place finish for open equitation on the flat. Kristen Stachnik also posted a second place finish for her intermediate flat class.

Sophomores Rachel Fox (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) and Laura Haynes (Avon, Conn./Avon) both placed third for their intermediate fences classes. Ashley Eng also placed third for walk-trot. 

Stonehill is back in action on Saturday, December 7, when it competes at the University of Rhode Island Invitational at Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Gales Ferry, Conn.
