Three Skyhawk riders earn blue ribbons as team extends region lead

MEDWAY, Mass. (February 26, 2013) – The Stonehill College equestrian team extended its lead atop the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings with a fourth place finish at the Boston College Show, hosted by Saddle Row Farm this weekend.

Tufts University won the team event ahead of host Boston College, while Mount Ida College placed third and then Stonehill in fourth.

Three Stonehill riders earned blue ribbons for their first place performances. Senior Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) placed first in her intermediate flat class, while junior Sara Kelly (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) earned a first place finish for intermediate fences. Freshman Emma Zamierowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) rounded out the first place efforts for the Skyhawks with a blue ribbon in walk-trot equitation.

Senior Emily Dolan (Lacrosse, Wis./Aquinas) placed in two events, taking second place for open equitation over fences as well as a third place showing for open equitation on the flat. Sophomore Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) also competed in open fences and placed sixth.

Sophomore Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, N.Y./Rutland) also placed in two novice events, finishing second in her fences class to go with a third place showing on the flat. Junior Kristen Stachnik (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) placed third for her intermediate fences class, while classmate Miranda Williams (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) placed fifth in intermediate flat and senior Megan Payne (Encinitas, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) was sixth in her walk-trot-canter class.

Stonehill is back in action on Sunday, March 3, when it participates in the Wellesley College Show at Rising Star Equestrian Center in Medway, Mass., starting at 9 a.m.
