Stonehill Wins Second Show of Weekend at Wellesley

Lorusso posts second high point rider performance of the weekend as Skyhawks extend lead atop region standings

MEDWAY, Mass. (February 27, 2012) – The Stonehill College equestrian team collected its second victory of the weekend to further extend its lead atop the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 standings at the Wellesley College show, hosted by Rising Star Equestrian Center on Sunday.

Stonehill was the high point team for the second straight day, after also winning at Boston College on Saturday, as it finishes two points off a perfect score with 47 points. The Skyhawks extended their lead atop the region to a commanding 22 points – a 13 point increase from before the show.

Junior Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) earned high point rider honors for the second-straight day with her blue ribbon performances in open fences and open flat. Freshman Danielle Franchi (Islip, N.Y./Islip) won her open fences class and also qualified for regionals in March with her fourth place finish on the flat.

Senior Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) and sophomore Miranda Williams (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) both won their intermediate fences classes, while senior Alexandra Keller (South Burlington, Vt./Stoneleigh-Burnham School) placed first for intermediate fences.

Junior Amanda LeBlanc (Allen, Texas/Morgan Park Academy (Ill.)) and freshman Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) both collected blue ribbons for their walk-trot-canter classes, while sophomore Caitlin Wright (Old Lyme, Conn./Mercy) won for walk trot.                   

Stonehill is now off again until Sunday, March 25, when it participates in the Brandeis University show at August Farm in Holliston at 9 a.m.
