Stonehill Takes Home Seven Ribbons from IHSA Tournament of Champions

Skyhawks place 17th as a team at final event of fall semester

LONG VALLEY, N.J. (December 7, 2011) – Stonehill College collected seven ribbons while turning in a 17th place finish at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Tournament of Champions, hosted by the Centenary Equestrian Center, this past weekend.

Senior captain Margeaux DeVirgilio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) was the top finisher among Stonehill's ribbon winners with her third place standing in novice equitation on the flat. Junior Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) placed sixth in the Tournament of Champions medal event, featuring the top riders in the country.

Senior captain Brianna Bach (Windham, N.H./Salem) earned a fifth place ribbon for novice equitation over fences. Classmate Christine Dwyer (Park City, Utah/Kentucky Country Day) posted a sixth place finish for intermediate flat, while sophomore Caitlin Wright (Old Lyme, Conn./Mercy) and freshman Kayleigh McDonnell (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) also collected sixth place ribbons in walk-trot and walk-trot-canter, respectively. Rounding out the Skyhawks ribbon winners was senior Rebecca Rossi (Cranston, R.I./Bay View Academy) with her seventh place finish in intermediate fences.

Stonehill placed 17th among the 21 teams invited to the elite competition which was won by host Centenary, the reigning IHSA National Champions. Fellow Zone 1 member Mount Holyoke College took second place, while 2010 national champions Skidmore College was third.

Stonehill will return to action in February for the spring portion of their schedule, which will be released in the coming weeks.
