Lorusso high point rider with first place performances on flat and fences
Stonehill, who won today's event with 45 points, moves three points clear of Tufts University in the Region 4 standings following the first spring show of the season. Sophomore Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) led the Skyhawks to victory by earning high point rider honors following a ride off after placing first in open fences and open flat. Senior Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) placed first in her open flat class, qualifying for the regional championships with her points in flat and fences.
Junior Brianna Bach (Windham, N.H./Salem) earned a first place ribbon for intermediate flat, while freshman Laura Chotkowski (Farmington, Conn./Ethel Walker) placed first at intermediate fences. Senior Diana Cabral (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) collected a first place ribbon for novice fences, while junior Nina Crossley (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) placed first in novice walk-trot-canter and sophomore Martina Tramontozzi (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) took first place honors on the novice flat.
Stonehill looks to build on its lead in the region standings next Sunday, March 13, when it participates in the Mount Ida College home show at River Wind Farm, in Pembroke, Mass., starting at 9 a.m.
