NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 18, 2010) – The Stonehill College equestrian team turned in its second third place finish in as many weeks to open their fall season after taking third at the Wheaton College show, hosted by Phoenix Rising Horse Farm, on Sunday.

Stonehill compiled 41 points to finish behind Boston University and Tufts University, also for the second-straight week, in the team competition. Senior co-captain Kayla Schneider (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) was named high point rider at the event after a ride off with a rider from BU after placing first in open fences and flat. Senior Diana Cabral (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) placed first in her novice flat class to qualify for regionals next spring. Sophomore Alexandra Fenner (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) rounded out the Skyhawks event winners with her first place showing in her walk-trot class.

Strong second place finishes for Stonehill came from sophomore Cassandra Lorusso (Wrentham, Mass./Dana Hall School) in open fences, junior Brianna Bach (Windham, N.H./Salem) for novice fences and senior Callie Ryan (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) for walk-trot-canter.

Stonehill has this weekend off before returning to action with two events the final weekend in October. The Skyhawks will participate in the Boston University show at Holly Hill Show Stables, in Hanover, Mass., on Saturday, October 30, before taking part in the Mount Ida show at River Wind Farm, in Pembroke, Mass., on Sunday, October 31.
