Baseball Trio Selected for 45th NEIBA All-Star Game

EASTON, Mass. (May 30, 2018) – Seniors Harrison Sabo, Michael Young, and William Kelleher, of the Stonehill College baseball team will represent the Skyhawks at the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) 45th Annual Joe Walsh All-Star Game on Friday, May 31st at the Dunkin Donuts Stadium in Hartford, Connecticut with a first pitch scheduled for noon.

The NEIBA All-Star Game features players from all three divisions from the New England region. Tickets will be $10 each and can be purchased at the gate of the Dunkin Donuts Stadium day of event. The game will begin at noon on Friday and prior to the game there will be a home run derby and a Hall of Fame and NEIBA Annual Awards ceremony.

The trio has been named to the Division II/III NEIBA senior All-Star Team and it is the first year since 2014 that Stonehill has had representatives in the game. All three were named to Northeast-10 Conference teams, as Sabo and Young were tabbed on the second team and Kelleher was selected for the third team.

Sabo appeared on All-Conference teams back-to-back years, as he led the team in batting average. He also led the Conference in RBI this season with 48 for a career high bringing his four-year total to 101 RBI. He also saw career highs in hits (62), runs scored (27), homeruns (4), and walks (14). In the field, the Wilton, Connecticut native played first base in all 47 games totaling only four errors with a career best 347 catches assisting in a career best 27 double plays.

Young, who was named NE10 Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-Rookie Team his freshman season, collected his third recognition from the Conference earning second team honors this year. This season, he threw a career high 72.0 innings allowing 61 hits with 17 earned runs. He struck out a career high 69 batters for 8.63 strikeouts per nine innings, including a game high 12 strikeouts against Assumption bringing his career total over 200 strikeouts. This year he saw his second best ERA with 2.13 and wrapped up with a 15-12 record with three saves and finished in the top 10 of the Conference in strikeouts and ERA.

Kelleher, who earned his first NE10 All-Conference nod being selected on the third team, assisted the team in multiple positions this year as he was predominantly an outfielder, playing 22 games in the outfield. He saw career best numbers in multiple categories, tallying 43 hits with 12 doubles, his first-career homerun, 21 RBI, 25 walks and a .283 batting average. He wrapped up the season ranked eighth in the NE10 in doubles (8), 13th in walks (25), and 45th in batting average (.285).

The Skyhawks concluded the 2019 season with their second series sweep of the season over Saint Anselm College for their first 20-plus win season in three years finishing with a 22-25 overall mark and a 13-14 Conference record.
