Baseball Comes From Behind for 15-7 Victory Over Saint Michael’s

Wilde registered his eighth double of the season, swinging 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI

COLCHESTER, Vermont (April 27, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team came from behind to tally 15 hits for 15 runs in a 15-7 victory in the first game of the series against Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Doc Jacobs Field on Saturday.  

The Skyhawks are now 17-24 overall and 8-13 in NE10 Conference play, while the Purple Knights fall to 8-23 and 5-16 in Conference play.

The Skyhawks pitching duo of Matt Smith, who threw 4.0 innings, and Brendan Powicki who tossed 5.0 innings struck out a combined 13 batters, as Powicki allowed no runs or hits for his first career victory.

Saint Michael's kicked off the game scoring five runs in the first and two in the second off of six hits and four errors, as the Skyhawks chipped away at the score putting three on the board themselves in the second inning, 7-3. Thomas Quinn, who went 2-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI, singled down the left field line for the first run, as Patrick Downey who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI followed with his own RBI single through the left side.

Both teams were scoreless for the next three innings, until Downey sent his fourth homerun of the season over the left center fence to start the top of the six rally. William Kelleher tallied his 10th double of the season with one out adding another run, as Harrison Sabo, who went 2-for-6, drove in another. With Aidan Wilde's eighth double of the season, he put up the fourth run to tie the game at seven, 7-7, before the Purple Knights retired the side.


Downey went 3-for-5 with four RBI, including his fourth homerun of the season

Downey drove in three more runs later in the game in the top of the eighth inning with one out with a bases clearing double, his fourth of the season for the first lead of the game, 10-7.

In the top of the ninth, Stonehill recorded three more hits for five more runs, including Sabo's fourth homerun of the season and a RBI single from Noah Lucier who went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI on the day.

Powicki walked four for his only base runners in his 5.0 innings to hold Saint Michael's College for a 15-7 win, breaking the 6-game losing streak for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill will face the Purple Knights for two more games tomorrow, Sunday, April 28 with a first pitch at 11:00 a.m. on Doc Jacobs Field in Colchester, Vermont.
