RINDGE, New Hampshire (April 23, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball team fell in a twin bill to Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play with scores of 7-4 and 8-2 on Pappas Field.

The Skyhawks are now 16-22 overall and 7-11 in NE10 Conference play, while the Ravens improve to 18-16 overall and 11-7 in Conference play.

Game 1: Stonehill 4 – Franklin Pierce 7
After two scoreless innings, the Ravens' John Mead sent out a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 as Michael Young struck out two out of the five to retire the side. Stonehill was able to respond with a run of their own in the top of the fourth as Thomas Quinn drove in Harrison Sabo to tie the game, 1-1.

The Skyhawks saw their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth as Sabo flew out to left field with the bases loaded sending Matt Donlan home after he tagged up, 2-1. In the bottom of the frame, Franklin Pierce took the lead back with six runs off of four hits. The Ravens saw two singles, a double, and a two-run homerun giving them the lead back for a five-run cushion, 7-2.

Stonehill threatened in the top of the ninth as Rob Duarte sent out his fourth homerun of the season to cut the deficit to four, 7-3. With two outs and Quinn on second after a deep double to left center, Donlan singled down the right field line for a three-run deficit, 7-4. The Skyhawks continued to produce, as Matthew Rocco chipped the ball through the right side for runners on first and second, but the Ravens got out of the jam on a fly out to hold on to the lead.

Game 2: Stonehill 2 – Franklin Pierce 8
Franklin Pierce opened the scoring as Mead singled through the right side in the bottom of the second to score Jonel Ozuna from third for the first run and hit of the game. Stonehill saw a double from Matt Farragher , his first of the season, for their first hit of the game in the top of the third.


Downey went 3-for-7 with one run scored and a double

After a lead-off walk in the bottom of the fourth, Franklin Pierce saw Ozuna triple to right center and Ural Forbes singled for two runs, extending the lead to three, 3-0.

Rocco drops a ball into right field as the fielder comes up short for catch tallying his third-career triple scoring Downey cutting the deficit to two, 3-1. William Kelleher followed Rocco with a RBI single to right field, easily scoring Rocco for a one-run ball game, 3-2. The Ravens continued racking up the hits recording three in the bottom of the seventh, bringing home five runs to put them ahead by six, 8-2.

Join the Skyhawks tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24 as Stonehill hosts Assumption College for the final game of the three-game series with a first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m. at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Massachusetts for their Purple & White Game.
