Skyhawks total 27 hits in two games, as Chargers combine for 25

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College baseball split with Northeast-10 Conference foe the University of New Haven on Sunday at Lou Gorman Field in cross-divisional play with a win of 15-9 and a loss of 11-5.
The Skyhawks are now 14-17 overall and 5-6 in NE10 Conference play, while the University of New Haven is 10-12 overall and 4-4 in Conference play.
Game 1: Stonehill 15 – New Haven 9
In the first game, there was a run scored in each of the innings except for the second inning where both teams notched a hit and left runners on base. Stonehill put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead with Aidan Wilde's RBI single to left field.
The third inning saw a combined eight runs, with seven of them in favor of the Skyhawks who extended the lead to seven, 8-1. The seven runs included Harrison Sabo's third homerun of the season and three RBI singles. In the fourth, the Chargers tallied another run on a sacrifice fly, as Stonehill continued extending its lead, scoring another five runs in the bottom of the frame on four hits for a 13-2 advantage.
The Chargers chipped away at the deficit putting seven runs on the board in three innings cutting the deficit to four, 13-9. The Skyhawks were able to put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth as Thomas Quinn doubled down the left field line and Noah Lucier flew out to center field for a sacrifice fly, 15-9. Junior Eddie Magi in three innings pitched, gave up no hits and no runs with one strikeout as he tallied his second save of the season, and retired seven-straight in the back half of the game.
Game 2: New Haven 11 – Stonehill 5

After putting two runs on the board in the top of the first, 2-0, the Skyhawks' Magi shut down the Chargers for the next four innings, allowing only three hits. In that time, Stonehill cut the deficit to one, 2-1, with a RBI single from William Kelleher in the bottom of the third but New Haven halted the offensive attack stranding runners on first and third.
Both teams put a run on the scoreboard in each of their half of the sixth for a 3-2 ball game, and the Chargers put up eight runs in the remaining three innings seeing their biggest inning in the top of the seventh as four runs crossed home on three hits and two errors.
Kelleher and Sabo cut the deficit to three, 7-4, tallying RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh with one out and Jeremiah Vargas drove in Rob Duarte in the bottom of the eighth for a RBI single. The Chargers did not give up in the latter half of the game as they kept the lead throughout the nine innings played outhitting the Skyhawks 13-11 as the two teams combined for eight errors.
Stonehill hosts NE10 Conference divisional foe Assumption College for a single game on Wednesday, April 10 with a first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. on Lou Gorman Field.
