NE10 Baseball Postseason Honors Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (May 9, 2018) – Stonehill College baseball juniors Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) and Matthew Rocco (Newington, Connecticut/Newington) have both earned All-Northeast-10 Conference third team honors, as selected by the league's 15 head coaches, the Conference announced today.

Sabo led the team this season with a .327 batting average playing 34 games at first base and five at third base. The junior also led the team in hits, totaling 54 in his 165 at bats with 15 of them being extra base hits. He ranked third in doubles combining for 11, and tied for first in triples and homeruns recording two in each category. His 36 RBI were a career high for the junior, along with his seven stolen bases, 23 runs scored, .369 on base percentage, and .455 slugging percentage.

Throughout the NE10, Sabo finished the season ranked 13th in RBI (36), 19th in hits (54) and doubles (11), 25th in batting average (.327), 27th in slugging percentage (.455), and 38th in stolen bases (7). The Wilton, Connecticut native was second on the team with a 10-game hitting streak, while he ended the season with a seven-game streak. Sabo led the team with 17 multi-hit games, where 12 of them were two-hit games and five were three-hit contests. The first baseman recorded 10 multiple RBI games with six of them totaling two, three recording three RBI, and one game with four RBI to lead the Skyhawks.

A 2015 graduate of Wilton High School, Sabo earned Varsity Rookie of the Year his junior season and All-FCIAC honorable mention at first base. He also assisted his team to the FCIAC Championship his season year when he was named team Co-MVP and All-FCIAC honorable mention.

In his 159 at bats, Rocco was second on the team behind Sabo with 46 hits, first on the team with 13 doubles. He also added one triple this season and chipped in 14 RBI for fourth on the team. He walked 17 times, ranking second for the Skyhawks. His .289 batting average was also second behind Sabo and he had a career-best showing this season in all categories. In his 39 games played in the field, he assisted the team in turning 18 of Stonehill's 28 double plays this season.

Rocco was 10th in doubles (13), 23rd in runs scored (34), 36th in hits (46). The junior led the team with a 14-game hitting streak and wrapped up the season with an eight-game streak. The Newington, Connecticut native was second on the team with 12 multi-hit games, where 11 were two-hit games and he had one three-hit game. Rocco was also one of 12 Skyhawks to record multiple RBI games, were he saw three games with two RBI this season, ranking fourth on the team. Rocco split time for the Skyhawks in the middle infield totaling 23 games at shortstop and 16 at second base.

A 2015 graduate of Newington High School, Rocco was named on the Academic All-Conference list his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He was named captain of the baseball team his senior year, where he also earned the Team Leadership Award.

The Skyhawks finished fifth in the Northeast Division, just shy of making playoffs for the second-straight season, with a 17-21-1 overall record and a 10-15-1 mark in the NE10.
