Senior Eric Schneider leads Skyhawks with 3-for-4 effort, a triple and a home run

EASTON, Mass. (March 30, 2016) – Bentley University snapped a 3-3 tie with five runs in the top of the 10th inning, outlasting Stonehill College for an 8-3 victory this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball action at Lou Gorman Field on the campus of Stonehill.

Leading 3-1 through six innings, Stonehill was unable to maintain the lead as Bentley scored twice in the eighth to force extra innings. The Falcons piled it on in the top of the tenth, scoring five runs on three hits and two errors.

Senior Eric Schneider (Camarillo, Calififornia/St. Bonaventure) led the Skyhawks at the plate today, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base and a two-run home run. Classmate Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles) went 1-for-3 with a walk, and two runs, while sophomore Alexander Joyce (Newton, Massachusetts/Newton North) and senior Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Massachusetts/BC High) each chipped in with a hit.

Senior righthander John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania/Penn-Trafford) got the start for Stonehill but did not earn a decision after giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits through seven innings of work. Hauck also struck out three but issued three walks. Redshirt sophomore Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) came on in relief and pitched 0.2 innings with two walks. Junior Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) took the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) in the 10th.

Sophomore Nick Neshe (Waltham, Massachusetts/Waltham) went 3-for-4 with a triple, a RBI and a run, while freshman Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Connecticut/Rocky Hill) posted a 2-for-5 effort with a RBI and run. Senior Bryan Rocha (Rehoboth, Massachusetts/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg.) went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk, two runs and a RBI, and graduate student Mike Muir (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) recorded a hit and three walks.

Senior John Hauck pitched seven innings giving up three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts.

Freshman righthander Paul Frisoli (Watertown, Massachusetts/Arlington Catholic) started on the mound for Bentley and struck out six while giving up three runs through 5.2 frames, but did not earn a decision. Classmate Nick Williams (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Southwest) picked up the win after tossing 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Stonehill got on the board first in the fourth inning when Campbell singled to center field and Schneider hit a two run blast over the left center field wall. After both teams went down in order in the fifth, Bentley cut into the lead when Rocha singled and advanced to third when Hauck's pickoff attempt went astray. Freshman Cameron Cruz (Chandler, Arizona/Hamilton) followed up with a groundout to the shortstop, scoring Rocha.

Stonehill responded in the bottom half of the sixth, as Campbell worked a two out walk and Schneider followed with a triple to right field. After the Skyhawks were retired in the sixth and seventh, Hauck came out for the eighth inning, but gave up a leadoff triple to Neshe who then scored on a passed ball to cut the Skyhawk lead to one. After Hauck walked Rocha, Hurley came on in relief and recorded two outs before loading the bases. Stonehill looked to get out of the jam but an error proved to be costly as Rocha scored to tie the game up at three.

Stonehill went down in order in the eighth and ninth inning, leading to extra innings. From there it was all Bentley, as the Falcons used three hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batter to push five runs across the plate.

Hocking led off the bottom of the tenth with a single up the middle, but Stonehill was unable to put a rally together, going down in order to end the game.

Stonehill (11-9, 0-3 NE-10) is back in action at Lou Gorman Field tomorrow afternoon as the Skyhawks are scheduled for a makeup game with Franklin Pierce University at 3:30 p.m. Bentley (6-13, 1-3 NE-10) travels to Pace University on Friday for a weekend series starting at 3:30 p.m.
