WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2016) – The Stonehill College baseball team capped its eight-day, ten-game spring break trip in Florida with a 5-0 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College today in non-conference action at Alfond Stadium in Winter Park, Florida.

The Skyhawks posted an 8-2-0 mark over the course of the trip, finishing strong with eight consecutive victories. Stonehill got an impressive pitching performance from junior lefty Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) who tossed eight shutout frames today, striking out six batters while walking two and allowing seven hits. Sophomore Joe Klingensmith (Topsfield, Massachusetts/Masconomet) pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit.

Senior catcher Eric Schneider (Camarillo, California/St. Bonaventure) led Stonehill at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 with a triple, driving in a run and scoring a run. Classmate Brian Campbell (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles), junior Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree), freshman Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) and junior Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) also recorded RBIs in Stonehill's five-run ninth, while senior Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and run.

Concordia sophomore starter Dylan Lawrence (Queens, New York/St. Franics Prep) nearly matched Hurley's effort, as he cruised through eight shutout innings, striking out five while walking none and giving up just two hits. The top of the ninth is where things began to unravel for Lawrence, as he gave up four earned runs.

Freshman Tyler Epple (Levittown, New York/Division Avenue), sophomore Joseph Davide (West Hempstead, New York/Carey) and junior Germane Dilone (Bronx, New York/Cardinal Hayes) all recorded two hits, while senior Brian Bilello (Lynbrook, New York/Lynbrook) and Davide hit doubles for Concordia.

Senior Eric Schneider finished 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and run scored.

Concordia put immediate pressure on Stonehill, as Epple singled but was caught stealing. Bilello then roped a double to right field and advanced to third on a passed ball. Hurley got out of the jam when he struck out Dilone swinging.

Stonehill was held in check for the majority of the game as they went down in order in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning before getting a runner on base. With two outs in the inning, Schneider tripled to right center field but was left stranded as junior Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) grounded out to third base to end the inning.

Stonehill finally broke through in the ninth, scoring five times on seven hits. Hoyt singled to center field, reaching base to lead off the inning before advancing to second on a stolen base. Lee then drove Hoyt in with a single to break the scoreless tie, and Campbell followed with a double to center field, scoring Lee. Schneider kept the rally going with a RBI single and advanced to second when he stole the base. Bowler then doubled to left center to score Schneider and Sabo hit a RBI single to set the score at 5-0.

Concordia was able to get a man in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth when Davide hit a leadoff double to right center, but the next three batters went down in order to end the contest, stranding Davide on base.

Stonehill (10-5, 0-0 NE-10) will be off for a week, before opening conference play next Saturday with a three game weekend series at Molloy College. Concordia (3-9, 0-0 CACC) is scheduled to play at Queens (N.Y.) College on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
