MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 20, 2014) – The Stonehill College baseball team opened its 2014 campaign with a 4-0 shutout victory against Felician College tonight in non-conference action at Griffith Field. The contest was one of five Stonehill will play this weekend as part of the Ripken Experience Northeast Challenge.

Senior left-handed starter Zach Soulier (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out five batters and walking just one.

Sophomore Brian Campbell (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles), a 2013 Northeast-10 All-Conference third team and All-Rookie team selection, went 2-for-4 with two triples, one RBI and one run scored. Classmate Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers), also a 2013 NE-10 All-Rookie team honoree, went 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, a stolen  base, and a run scored.

Senior first baseman Anthony Pagano (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) had a 2-for-4 showing at the plate with two singles, while junior Christian Baglini (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame High School) went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the second inning when senior shortstop Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) walked to lead off the frame, and then advanced to second on a single by Pagano. Two batters later, Fratus came around to score on a passed ball to give Stonehill a 1-0 lead. The Skyhawks added another run the following inning, as Hoyt scored on Baglini's single to double Stonehill's advantage.

Sophomore Brian Campbell went 2-for-4 with two triples and one RBI.

In the fifth inning, sophomore Brian Hocking (Duxbury, Mass./BC High) led off with a walk and advanced to second on an error by Felician junior pitcher Jerry Vasto (Atl. Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional). Campbell then ripped the first of his two triples, scoring Hocking and upping Stonehill's lead to 3-0.

Campbell led off the eighth inning with his second triple of the evening, and the sophomore came around to score one batter later, as Hoyt knocked home his first run of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Mike Krupczak (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) entered the game in the eighth inning in relief of Soulier, and he allowed two runners to reach base before inducing an inning-ending double play. Freshman Jeremy Roberts (Reading, Mass./Malden Catholic) pitched a perfect ninth inning in his first collegiate appearance, striking out the first two batters looking before getting the final out on a grounder to Fratus.

Vasto pitched five innings for the Golden Falcons, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three. Freshman Dan LaMorte (Manalapan, N.J./St. John Vianney) replaced Vasto in the sixth inning, and he went three frames, allowing two hits and one run while striking out four.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) will be back in action tomorrow night against Caldwell College, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m. Felician (0-1, 0-0 CACC) will take on a pair of Northeast-10 foes tomorrow, starting with Franklin Pierce University at noon and then Southern New Hampshire University at 3:00 p.m.
