Rollins Posts 7-1 Victory Over Stonehill

Tars score seven runs on 14 hits to take non-conference contest

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 24, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh overall in the latest NCBWA East Regional Poll, dropped a 7-1 non-conference decision to Rollins College on Tuesday evening on the campus of Bentley University at Robert DeFelice Field. Today's contest was a makeup of yesterday's matchup which was postponed due to rain.

Senior Mike Herrmann (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis CC-Forest Park/Christian Brothers) picked up the win in seven innings of work, two hits, one run (earned), three walks and seven strikeouts. Garrett Young (Silvis, Ill./Central Arizona CC/United Township) and left-hander Jack Murray (Milford, Mass./Milford) both tossed a scoreless inning apiece with one strikeout while Murray gave up one hit.

Senior Bryan Galligan (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) suffered the loss on six-and-two-thirds innings pitched, ten hits, five runs (all earned), one walk and four punchouts. Freshman Steve Pike (Stoughton, Mass./Catholic Memorial) recorded a pair of outs, not allowing a run.

Greg Smith (Stamford, Conn./UConn-Avery Point/Westhill) gave Rollins a 1-0 lead with a RBI double to centerfield in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Tars took a 2-0 advantage in the sixth as Sean Reilly (Westwood, Mass./Florida International/Xaverian Bros.) launched a first-pitch solo homer to left field with one out.

Senior Steven Popp (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the seventh with a RBI single to left field that plated fellow classmate Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) from second base. White led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout before scoring.

Rollins broke open the game in the bottom half of the inning as Anthony Figliolia (Winter Springs, Fla./SCF-Manatee/Winter Springs) notched a run-producing single to left field and a Kevin Mager (Middletown, N.J./Brookdale CC/Middletown North) two-run double to left centerfield scoring Figliolia and Zach Persky (Solon, Ohio/University School).

The Tars added two runs in the eighth inning on four hits (one extra-base hit).

Stonehill (23-17, 11-10 NE-10, 6-7 Northeast Division) hosts UMass Lowell for a Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Northeast Division matchup at 3:30 p.m. Rollins (25-16) travels to Saint Leo on Thursday, April 26 at 6 p.m.
