MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 15, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth overall in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Regional Poll, dropped a Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Northeast Division game to no. 7 ranked Southern New Hampshire University, also ranked first overall in the NCBWA East Regional Poll, by a score of 6-5 on Sunday night at Penmen Field.

Sophomore Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass./Nauset Regional) earned the win in relief on one-and-one-thirds innings pitched and one strikeout. Junior starter Jon Massad (Shrewsbury, Mass./St. John's HS) landed the no-decision on seven-and-two-thirds innings, six hits, five runs (four runs), three walks and six punchouts.

Senior Michael Von Stein (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) suffered the loss on two-and-one-thirds innings pitched, two hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and two strikeouts. Classmate Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) was handed the no-decision tossing six-and-one-thirds innings, yielding eight hits, four runs (all earned), two walks and three strikeouts.

Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Penmen tied up the contest with a Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) solo homer to right field, his team-leading fifth home run of the season.

Southern New Hampshire walked off with the win in the ninth inning as sophomore Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) notched an infield single to leadoff the frame, advanced to second on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a throwing error from second base.

Stonehill scored two runs in the sixth on a Colin Shepard (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) RBI groundout and a Dan Pidgeon (Darien, Conn./Darien) sacrifice bunt.

Junior Matt Boulter (Wrentham, Mass./Bishop Feehan) had a run-producing single in the fifth inning before the Skyhawks scored three runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single through the right side of the infield by sophomore Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) and another sacrifice bunt RBI by Pidgeon.

Southern New Hampshire opened up the scoring in the third inning with three runs on five hits, no errors and two runners left on base. Alejandro Diaz (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) had a RBI triple to right centerfield, O'Brien plated a run with a single down the left field line and Boulter drove in a run with a single to left field.

White went 2-for-4 with one run scored out of the third spot in the lineup to increase his hitting streak to 19-straight games surpassing sophomore Dan Fratus' (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) hitting streak – 18 games – for the longest on the squad. White has compiled 13 multi-hit games since his streak started on March 13.

Stonehill (23-12, 11-6 NE-10, 6-3 Northeast Division) hosts Bentley University for a single game on Tuesday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m. Stonehill head coach Patrick Boen (Stonehill, '89, 15th season) remains one win shy for 400 in his career (399-285-2). Southern New Hampshire (32-5, 15-3 NE-10, 8-2 Northeast Division) travels to Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
