Skyhawks partner with Avenue Networks to develop app for iPhone and Android

EASTON, Mass. (July 12, 2012) – Stonehill College is pleased to announce the launch of the official Stonehill Skyhawks app, a free download now available to students, alumni, faculty and fans on their iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android smartphones. Stonehill is the first Northeast-10 Conference member to offer a mobile app for smartphones.

Stonehill has partnered with Avenue Networks to develop an app that will allow Skyhawks fans to stay connected and track the College’s 20 intercollegiate varsity sports with the most up to date technologies. The app provides a user-friendly gateway to the athletic department’s various web-based mediums such as its mobile website, powered by PrestoSports, and Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We’re very excited to announce the official release of a mobile app for the Stonehill athletics department,” said Brendan Sullivan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Stonehill. “Fans now have a one stop outlet to follow all the Skyhawks athletic programs and stay connected to the latest news and information.”

“This is a great vehicle for Stonehill to connect to their fans 24/7 anywhere in the world and keep them current with all the Skyhawks varsity teams,” said Bill Sullivan, founder of Avenue Networks. “Avenue Networks’ innovative mobile app platform provides a framework that is flexible and scalable.”

The initial release, which is now available for free download by searching for “Stonehill Skyhawks” in the Apple iTunes Store or Android Markets, features team roster information, player bios and statistics, schedules, scoreboards and news for each of Stonehill’s 20 intercollegiate athletic programs. Included are links for Stonehill Sports Camps, scoreboard, college and facility directions, weather and the athletic department Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We would like to thank Avenue Networks for their assistance and expertise in developing the app as well as PrestoSports for the work on their end to assist in the process,” said Doug Monson, Director of Athletic Communications at Stonehill. “We’re happy to be able to provide our students, alumni, parents and fans another outlet to be able to stay connected with the Stonehill athletic department and look forward to continue to make improvements as we move forward as technology continues to develop.”

Stonehill earned its second-straight Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup Trophy for the 2010-11 academic year. In addition to capturing the NE-10 Presidents' Cup for the third time at the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year, Stonehill ranked 51st in the final Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings which recognizes overall athletic achievement in NCAA sports. Stonehill was also recently ranked second in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs for the second-straight year. Stonehill has been recognized for its academic performance with regard to graduation rate by earning a 98-percent Academic Success Rating (ASR) for the second-straight year as released by the NCAA – ranking third in all of Division II.
