223 student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll
Stonehill Athletic Director's Spring 2019 Honor Roll
EASTON, Mass. (July 1, 2019)– Stonehill College has announced its Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the Spring 2019 semester, recognizing 223 student-athletes who have earned a semester grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Each of Stonehill's intercollegiate athletic programs were represented on this semester's list, with about 50-percent of our 440 student-athletes making the list.
The women's cross country team saw 94-percent of their roster named to the Honor Roll and the women's soccer team had the next highest percentage for women's sport with 84-percent of the team recognized, while the women's track and field team followed with 83-percent represented. On the men's side, men's ice hockey had 60-percent of their roster make the Honor Roll with men's tennis seeing 54-percent of their team being recognized, and the men's cross country team had 50-percent of the team honored. Of the 11 women's teams, nine had 50-percent or more of their team named to the Honor Roll, while three of the eight men's teams saw 50-percent or more honored.
Among the 223 student-athletes named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, 11 achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average, four of which did so during their team's season. Earning the highest of honors while in season were men's track and field senior Riley Dowd, women's track & field seniors Taylor Landers and Olivia Dexter, and junior Jordan Callahan.
Volleyball senior Megan Pennino and junior Rachel Dunlavy, football sophomore Derek Ivey, men's soccer senior Patrick Doherty and sophomore Michael McShane, women's soccer seniors Madalyn Fernbach and Emily Scollard were also among the 11 perfect GPAs.
All six of the student-athletes that were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Spring Academic All-Conference teams last week were also recognized on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Of the six, sophomore softball student-athlete Genna Hartman earned her first NE10 Academic All-Conference recognition after she also earned her first All-Conference honor, being placed on the second team. Hartman is the first softball NE10 Academic All-Conference selection for the Skyhawks since Stonehill had three selections in 2016. The sophomore is studying elementary education and psychology while minoring in speech pathology. She wrapped up her second year with the Purple & White with the second best batting average on the team, .287, as she also saw career highs in nine categories. She threw 19.2 innings in the circle but was mainly the designated hitter for the Skyhawks as she tallied five doubles, one homerun, scored 11 runs, and totaled 16 RBI.
Men's cross country and track & field senior Alex Demeule was tabbed as the NE10 Man of the Year in early June, as he was just the second Stonehill student-athlete to do so. Demeule has earned eight NE10 Academic All-Conference awards across three seasons and graduated in May with a degree in finance. Along with the NE10 Man of the Year title, Demeule was tabbed as Stonehill's Edward E. Martin Male Senior Scholar-Athlete. He also received Google Cloud Academic All-District® honors three times, and was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® third team as a junior. Demeule is also a five-time NCAA Championships participant, as he has competed at three NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and two NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships with the 4000-meter distance medley relay team.
With 21 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup five times, all coming within the last 14 years. The Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first eight years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 96% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for seventh among all NCAA Division II institutions, with eight Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked 11th in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings for Division II used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
