EASTON, Mass. (July 8, 2013) – A total of 218 Stonehill College student-athletes have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, by league Commissioner Julie Ruppert, for their performances in the classroom during the spring semester.

All 19 of Stonehill’s NE-10 varsity programs are represented on this semester’s list, recognizing student-athletes who earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the spring term. Among the honorees were ten Skyhawks that earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester: freshman Joshua Bankert (Cuttingsville, Vt./Mill River Union), a freshman back from the men’s soccer team; juniors Justin Blaszczyk (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown), and Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) and freshman Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park), from the men’s and women’s track & field programs, senior Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) and sophomore Will Husic (Glastonbury, Conn./Bridgton Academy) from the ice hockey team, juniors Kelly Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and Gina Sheehan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) from the field hockey program, senior Gina Patronaggio (Massapequa, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) of women’s soccer, and senior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien), of men’s tennis.

In addition to Borges, who was also named the NE-10’s inaugural Man of the Year last month, Stonehill’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll list features another Academic All-American in senior Kayla Green (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry), who earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacross Association (IWLCA) and was a first team All-North Region and All-Conference pick this past season. Other notable standouts include women’s basketball junior captains Mary Louise Dixon (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley), a Women's Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-American, and Asia Ewing (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy), who led the Skyhawks to an NCAA Tournament bid this semester, and sophomore All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Mass./BC High), who qualified for both the NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships this semester, placing

Stonehill’s 218 honor roll members rank third in the Northeast-10, behind Bentley University’s 348 and Assumption College’s 222. 51.3% of Stonehill’s 425 student-athletes made their way onto the Honor Roll, a number right in line with the Conference average of 51.4%. The Skyhawks’ men’s tennis team led all Stonehill programs in terms of percentage, with nine of its 11 student-athletes (81.8%) making the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

With 20 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. The Skyhawks have finished in the top three in the final NE-10 Presidents' Cup standings nine straight years, winning the Cup four times, including a streak of three-straight from 2009-10 through 2011-12. This prestigious award is given to the top performing athletic school in the Northeast-10, across all sports and seasons. Stonehill has received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first two years if the program's existence of honoring programs with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. The Skyhawks have earned a 97% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for fifth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs.
