Skyhawks recognized for academic performance during spring semester
EASTON, Mass. (July 24, 2012) – A total of 240 Stonehill College student-athletes have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their performances in the classroom during the spring semester.
All 19 of Stonehill’s NE-10 varsity programs are represented on this semester’s list, recognizing student-athletes who earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the spring term. Four Skyhawks earned GPA’s of 4.0 for the semester: women’s soccer junior back and Capital One Academic All-American Elizabeth Belanger (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central), sophomore track and field middle distance runner Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), who was named an NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection during the outdoor season, field hockey sophomore and St. Thomas Aquinas medal winner Kelly Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and NE-10 All-Conference second team selection and junior softball standout Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow).
The honor roll also includes two-sport student athlete Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) who earned consensus All-Region honors in baseball and NE-10 All-Conference first team accolades in soccer, track & field and cross country Capital One Academic All-American Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional), All-America football standout Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and NE-10 Academic Sports Excellence Award winner and junior tennis player Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit).
Stonehill’s 240 honor roll members trail just Bentley University’s 351 among all Northeast-10 programs. 58% of Stonehill’s 411 student-athletes earned honor roll status, well above the Conference average of 50%. The Skyhawks field hockey team, which earned an NE-10 Academic Team Excellence award this year, led the NE-10 with 16 honor roll members.
Stonehill earned its third-straight NE-10 President’s Cup Trophy for the 2011-12 academic year and fourth overall in program history. Stonehill has also been recognized for its efforts in the classroom with an inaugural Presidents’ Award for Academic Excellence for having one of the top graduation rates in Division II. Stonehill is also ranked second in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs for the second-straight year.
