Preview: Women’s Cross Country to Compete in 20th NCAA Championship

EASTON, Massachusetts (November 21, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Rankings and received votes in the latest national poll, will compete in its 20th-straight NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships this Saturday at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, California, hosted by California State, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission. The women's six-kilometer race will kick off the day at 1:00 p.m. EST, while the men's 10-kilometer race will begin at 2:15 p.m. EST.

Tickets for the event can be purchased day of event for $10 a car for cash only. For those that will not be making the trip to California, NCAA cross country fans can watch the live streams of the Championships on FloTrack as they will be providing pay-per-view live coverage of the meet.

The Skyhawks finished earned their 16th NCAA Division II East Regional Title in program history two weekends ago with a program best 26 points Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as all seven runners earned All-East Region honors. Roberts Wesleyan College, who is No. 1 in the East Region finished second with 41 points and Southern New Hampshire University also punched a ticket to the Championship with 130 points and third place. Junior Sam Curtin was the individual champion earning her third All-East Region honor and she was the fourth individual title in five years at the regional.

To qualify for regionals, Stonehill won their 18th NE10 Championship in program history and 11th-straight title totaling 36 points with seven Skyhawks in the top 25. Curtin finished third at the Conference Championship earning her second first team honor and third overall recognition from the NE10.

Last year, the women's squad posted a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championship for the second best finish in program history.

This will be Curtin's third appearance at the NCAA Championship, as senior Anna Lastra leads the Skyhawks with her fourth appearance this season. She finished 64th last year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a career best performance. Along with Curtin, senior Alyssa Freeman will also be making her third appearance at the NCAA Championship.

Senior Jordan Callahan and junior Sophia Anderle will be making their second appearance, while sophomore Siobhan O'Keefe and junior Jillian Howard will both represent the Purple & White for the first time at the NCAA Championship.
