EASTON, Mass. (November 14, 2019) – The Stonehill College cross country head coach Karen Boen has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Women's Coach of the Year, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Boen, who is in her 23nd season in charge of the Skyhawks, has totaled 66 Coach of the Year awards, 17 of them being the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year and 14 East Region Women's Coach of the Year honors.

Most recently, she led the women's team to the program's 16th NCAA Division II East Region Title with 26 points, to punch the 20th-straight ticket to the NCAA Championships, which will be held Saturday, November 23 in Sacramento, California. All seven runners crossed the finish line on November 9 and earned All-East Region accolades, as junior Sam Curtin was the individual champion. Curtin was the Skyhawks' fourth individual title in five years.

Two weeks prior, the Skyhawks dominated at the NE10 Championship, earning their 18th overall and 11th-straight NE10 cross country title and six All-Conference nods in the six-kilometer race. Stonehill combined for 36 points in the 14-team race, as seven finished in the top 25. Boen was named the NE10 Women's Coach of the Year last week.

With the women's 11-straight NE10 Cross Country Championship under their belt, the Skyhawks have won 13-straight Championships including cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field. Over the past 19 NE10 Championships, Stonehill women have won 18.

In early August, Boen was named one of six U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association Hall of Fame inductees.  Boen will be recognized in December as the first NE10 coach in the Hall of Fame.

Last year alone, Boen was tabbed NE10 Women's Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year, as well as USTFCCCA Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.

In 2017, Boen saw the fifth year that she tallied both the men's and women's NE10 Coach of the Year Award in cross country, the other years include: 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2004. Boen's success extends beyond the conference level, however, she has also collected East Region Coach of the Year Honors for all six teams. Overall, her resume includes 66 NE10 and East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 37 NE10 Championships, and 19 East Region Championships across the six teams. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of 72 All-Americans and four fellow Hall of Fame inductees.

Both the men's and women's teams will travel to Sacramento, California to compete in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, hosted by California State University, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission. The races will take place on Saturday, November 23 with the women's race beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the men's race at 2:15 p.m.
