EASTON, Mass. (November 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College cross country head coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, as announced by the league on Thursday. 

Boen, who is in her 23rd season in charge of the Skyhawks, has totaled 65 Coach of the Year awards, 17 of them being the NE10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. She led the women's team to their 18th and 11th-straight NE10 cross country title in late October and six All-Conference nods in the six-kilometer race. Stonehill combined for 36 points in the 14-team race, as seven finished in the top 25.

With the women's 11-straight NE10 Cross Country Championship under their belt, the Skyhawks have won 13-straight Championships including cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field. Over the past 19 NE10 Championships, Stonehill women have won 18.

The Skyhawks were led by junior Sam Curtin  as she earned her third cross country All-Conference nod with a third-place finish out of 136 competitors. Classmate Jillian Howard was next in line a she placed sixth for her first cross country Alll-Conference honor and sophomore Siobhan O'Keefe also received her first with a seventh-place finish at Jamesville Beach State Park, hosted by Le Moyne College.

In early August, Boen was named one of six U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association Hall of Fame inductees.  Boen will be recognized in December as the first NE10 coach in the Hall of Fame.

Last year alone, Boen was tabbed NE10 Women's Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year, as well as USTFCCCA Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.

In 2017, Boen saw the fifth year that she tallied both the men's and women's NE10 Coach of the Year Award in cross country, the other years include: 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2004. Boen's success extends beyond the conference level, however, she has also collected East Region Coach of the Year Honors for all six teams. Overall, her resume includes 65 NE10 and East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 37 NE10 Championships, and 18 East Region Championships across the six teams. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of 72 All-Americans and four fellow Hall of Fame inductees.

On Saturday, both the Stonehill women and men's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA Division II East Regional Cross Country Championships at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hosted by Jefferson University. The women's six-kilometer race will kick off the championship at noon, followed by the men's 10-kilometer race which will begin at 1:15 p.m.
