Women’s Cross Country Takes Home First Title at Kutztown Division II/III Challenge

Curtin led the Skyhawks to its first title of the season with her second-place finish

KUTZTOWN, Pennsylvania (September 15, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 1 in the East Region and No. 23 in the nation in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Poll, took home its first title of the season at the Kutztown Division II/III Challenge Saturday morning.

The Skyhawks totaled 24 points for their team title, while Malone University followed with 53 points and Rachel Wentworth as the individual winner of the race. West Chester University combined for 100 points and third place, while Kutztown University, the host totaled 126 points, good for fourth place. Northeast-10 Conference foe Le Moyne College rounded out the top five teams finishing with 126 points, as well.

Sophomore Sam Curtin led the way for the Skyhawks as she finished second among the 104 competitors with a time of 23:44.2. Freshman Rebecca Erhard crossed just a few inches behind Curtin earning her first top five finish of the season, clocking in a time of 23:44.6, good for third place.

Senior Makenzie Cyr placed fourth overall with her time of 23:46.0, as junior Anna Lastra  competed in her first race of the season placing seventh as the fourth Skyhawk across the finish line, with a time of 23:53.1. Classmate Alyssa Freeman was the final Skyhawk to earn points towards the team total, placing eighth overall with a time of 23:55.0. Siobhan O'Keefe and Sophia Anderle were the next Skyhawks across the finish line placing ninth and 12th, respectively. O'Keefe clocked in a time of 23:55.3, while Anderle finished the six-kilometer course in 24:09.1.

The Skyhawks take some time off before taking on the New England Championships on Saturday, October 6 at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
