EASTON, Mass. (August 27, 2018) – Head coach Karen Boen announces the addition of Michael Delgado and Dan Gordon '15 to the men's and women's cross country and track & field coaching staffs.

Delgado will be overseeing throws, hurdles, and horizontal jumps, while Gordon will assist in distance events during the indoor and outdoor seasons, and both will contribute during cross country season.

"I couldn't be more excited to have both Mike and Dan back on campus," exclaimed Boen.

Delgado returns to Stonehill after a 10-year stint as an assistant track & field coach at Boston University, joining the institution in 2008. He coached Jason Biesma to breaking the Terrier's heptathlon record with a total of 5,041 points at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Delgado was also recognized by BU in 2012 as the inaugural winner of the Terrier Staff Award, which is given out to a Terrier staff member who goes above and beyond his or her duties. During that year, he also coached Allison Barwise to a pair of All-America selections in the high jump, as well as seeing her qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Delgado was part of Robyne Johnson's staff at BU that was tabbed Women's Coaching Staff of the Year at the America East Indoor Championship twice while with the Terriers, once in 2008 and the second time in 2012. He also assisted in three NEICAAA champions, four ECAC Champions, six NCAA outdoor regional qualifiers, two NCAA Indoor Championships qualifiers, and two NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifiers. He also saw the women's track & field team to three Patriot League Championships during his tenure, two women's cross country titles, and one men's.

Before becoming a Terrier, Delgado spent two years with the Skyhawks, including training the program's first All-American in a non-distance event with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash from Torrey Price at the 2007 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship.

A 2005 graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor of science degree in resource economics, Delgado was a captain of the Huskies' men's track & field team as a senior and captured New England Championships in the 55-meter hurdles and the heptathlon, setting a meet record in the latter. He also competed in the NCAA Regionals and was an All-Big East performer in the 110-meter high hurdles in each of his four years.

A native of Bridgewater, Delgado currently resides in Hull and is a member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"As a former track & field coach, Mike knows the team dynamic and understands both the level of athlete on the team and the importance of balancing both our sport and the athletes' integrity," stated Boen. Mike made a huge impact on the team 11 years ago and coached two sprinters to an NCAA Championship. Records still stand from his tenure. I have no doubt that Mike will pick up where he left off and continue to make an impact on our teams."

Gordon

Gordon graduated from Stonehill College in 2015 and was a four-time letter winner for the cross country and track & field programs. He was elected captain during his junior and senior seasons. Gordon was a four-time NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship qualifier, a four-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region honoree, and a four-time Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference selection.

Gordon also ran cross country and track & field at Plymouth North High School where he graduated in 2011 and was a three-time state champion in the 2-mile race. In Spring 2018, Gordon was inducted into Plymouth North's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Prior to teaching full time, Gordon was a substitute teacher in the Plymouth Public School System and at Sacred Heart High School. While at Sacred Heart, Gordon assisted with the boy's and girl's track & field program, outlining workouts and routines for all athletes.

Gordon qualified for four NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships in his four years on the Stonehill team

"Dan epitomizes what it means to be a Skyhawk. As a former captain of both cross country and track & field teams, he is aware of the "all on board" commitment it takes to impact the conference, the region, and make it to the NCAA Championships," remarked Boen. "Dan brings both a work ethic and an understanding of what it means to be a true student-athlete. I am very fortunate to have Dan back on campus and the teams will benefit from all the experience he brings to Stonehill."

The women's cross country program captured its 16th NE10 Championship last season, saw its third-straight individual champion, and appeared in its 18th NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. The women's track & field program won its fifth-straight NE10 indoor title, fourth NE10 outdoor title, and saw two events compete at the NCAA Division II Championships. The men's cross country program earned its ninth NE10 title, fourth NCAA Division II East Regional Championship, first New England Championship, and appeared in their 15th-consecutive NCAA Division II Championship with a 16th-place finish, best since 2006. During the track & field seasons, the men posted third-place results at the NE10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, while seeing one event compete at Nationals, earning All-America honors.
