NE10 Major Awards and All-Conference Release
EASTON, Mass. (October 31, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's cross country's senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) was named Northeast-10 Conference Athlete of the Year, while freshman Sam Curtin (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) was selected as Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Both Knox and Curtin has assisted the team in winning four out of the five meets this season, including titles at the Shacklette Invitational, Kutztown Division II/III Challenge, Codfish Bowl, and the NE10 Championship. The Skyhawks finished first at the NE10 Championship with a total of 39 points, only two points less than runner-up Assumption College. Stonehill won its 16th title in program history and tallied its ninth-straight crown.
Knox posted one title, one runner-up mark, and one 20th-place finish during her senior season. She came in second in the six-kilometer race at the DII/III Challenge in Kutztown, Pennsylvania finishing with a time of 22:40.6. She also captured 20th at the New England Championships helping Stonehill to a 10th-place mark out of 28 teams crossing the finish with a time of 18:30.3 in the five-kilometer competition. Most recently the senior won the individual title at the NE10 Championship, taking Stonehill's third-straight individual crown, with a mark of 21:37.1 in the six-kilometer race.
During her four years on the cross country team, Knox has previously been named to the NCAA Division II All-East team in her sophomore and freshman years, while also need tabbed on the NE10 All-Conference second team once and the first team twice. Academically, her name has been put on the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

She is a 2014 graduate of Notre Dame Academy where she competed in both cross country and track and field. Knox served as captain during all three seasons her senior year, while assisting her cross country team to district runner-ups her junior and senior seasons. During the indoor and outdoor seasons her senior year, the Worcester, Massachusetts native helped her track team win the district championship.
Curtin totaled four marks in the top 20, during her freshman year, making her best place at the Shacklette Invitational finishing fifth in the five-kilometer race with a time of 19:45.0. She then crossed the line in 10th at the Division II/III Challenge, followed by an 18th-place tally at the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park. At the New England Championship, she finished 58th with a time of 19:11.5, while earning her first NE10 All-Conference third team honor with a 19th-place finish at the NE10 Championship.
The Plymouth, Massachusetts native was a 2017 graduate of Plymouth North High School and competed in both cross country and track and field. She was named to the All-Academic Cross Country Team.
Stonehill travels to Buffalo, New York to compete in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Saturday, November 4, hosted by Daemen College.
