EASTON, Mass. (November 10, 2016) – Stonehill College cross country senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) has been named NCAA Division II East Regional Athlete of the Year, as head coach Karen Boen has been named the NCAA Division II East Regional Coach of the Year as voted on by the Division's coaches, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Borofski

Borofski earns her second East Regional Athlete of the Year award after leading Stonehill to both the NCAA Division II East Region and Northeast-10 Conference championships over the last three weeks and being named USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week in September. The senior completed the six-kilometer race at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire in 20:57.5 to take first place at the NCAA East Regional, and becoming a two-time champion. The Plymouth, Mass. native clocked in a time of 21:26.2 at the NE-10 Championship.

Borofski also picked up three other titles this season, including at the Skyhawk Preview, first among the college division at the National Catholic Championship, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, and a New England Championship, as she became the first Skyhawk ever to win the title. She started off the season with the meet hosted by Stonehill, finishing with a time of 18:04, as she bested that time in Indiana with a mark of 17:32.5. She once again beat her time as she was crowned New England Champion with a time of 17:28.7.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track for the Eagles. She earned All-State honors in cross country all four years, and served as a team captain for both cross country and track as a junior and senior.

Head coach Karen Boen was named the USTFCCCA East Region Coach of the Year for the 13th time by the region's coaches.

Boen, who is in her 19th season in charge of the women's cross country program at Stonehill, has led the women's team to both the Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Division II East Regional Championships for the seventh time over the last eight years this fall. The Skyhawks will be appearing in the NCAA Division II Championships for the 17th-straight year under her leadership. Stonehill has been ranked atop the USTFCCCA's Division II East Regional rankings every week it has been produced this season.

Boen

Stonehill punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II Championships after dominating the East Regional Championships, scoring 48 points, 42 points ahead of the runner-up Assumption College who finished with 80 points. Senior co-captain Borofski was Stonehill's top finisher for the Skyhawks, as she placed first overall in 20:57.5. Borofski was one of seven Stonehill participants to earn All-Region honors for finishing in the top-25.

The Stonehill Women's Cross Country team has been on a roll this fall under Boen. The Skyhawk women won the Skyhawk Preview Meet, the Northeast-10 Championship, and the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship.

Earlier this season, Boen was also named the NE-10 Women's Coach of the Year for piloting the squad to its eighth-consecutive NE-10 Championship and 15th in program history. The Skyhawks placed seven athletes on the NE-10 All-Conference teams.

Boen's success extends beyond the conference level, however. She has collected 16 East Region Coach of the Year awards for men's (3) and women's (13) cross country, and four more for indoor/outdoor track & field. Overall, her resume includes 42 NE-10/East Region Coach of the Year Awards, 25 NE-10 Championships, and 17 East Region Championships across the six teams she is in charge of. Boen, who was inducted into the Stonehill Hall of Fame in 2014, has overseen the development of 50 All-Americans and three fellow Hall of Fame inductees.

The Stonehill men's and women's cross country teams will both be heading to Saint Leo, Florida next week to compete in the NCAA DII National Championships. The women will be making their 17thconsecutive appearance on the national stage, while the men have made it 14-straight seasons.
