Women's Cross Country Named East Regional Champions, Punches 17th-Straight Ticket to NCAA's

All seven women Skyhawk runners earned All-Region honors

HOPKINTON, N.H. (November 5, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll and ranked first in the East Region, punched its 17th-straight ticket to the NCAA Division II Championships with a first-place finish today at the NCAA East Regional Championship at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.

Stonehill came in first place at today's event with 48 points, 42 points ahead of runner-up Assumption College who finished with 80 points. Roberts Wesleyan College finished third with 113 points, while Daemen and Bentley University totaled 159 and 203 points, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. The Skyhawks Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) finished first, for the second-straight year among the field of 191 runners.

"This women squad is a class act," stated head coach Karen Boen. "They shuffled positions throughout the entire race with each other, but they stuck together and used each other when the time matter the most."

Senior Borofski led the Skyhawks with her second first-place mark and a career-best time of 20:57.5, earning her fourth-straight All-Region honor in the 6k race. Classmate Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) followed close behind recording 11th-place tallies with a career-best time of 22:09.4. She picked up her third All-Region accolade.

Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) was the second freshman to cross the finish as she recorded a time of 22:14.5 tallying 13th and her first All-Region honor. Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and sophomore Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th place, respectively. McAdams registered a time of 22:18.5 for her third-career All-Region accolade, while Cyr posted a time of 22:20.4 for her second-career All-Region mark.

Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) crossed the finish line as the third freshman with a time of 22:23.9 tallying 19th place and her first All-Region honor, as sophomore Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Mass./Bishop Feehan) registered a time of 22:27.8 for 20th place and her second-career All-Region accolade.

The Stonehill College women's team will be joined by the men's squad at the NCAA Division II National Championship on Saturday November 19 in Saint Leo, Florida on the Abbey Course hosted by Saint Leo University.
