No. 13 Stonehill Wins College Division Title at National Catholic Championships

Skyhawks place third overall in 41-team field; Borofski win College Division II individual title

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (September 16, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th in this week's U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, won the Collegiate Division title and raced to a third-place finish overall out of 41 teams on Friday afternoon at the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame at Burke Golf Course.

Stonehill scored 51 points to lead the 30 Division II and III programs competing in the 41-program event. No. 15 Notre Dame won the Division I title with 31 points. The Skyhawks total time of its five scoring runners was 1:32:01 over the five-kilometer course, ranking third overall at the event behind the Fighting Irish (1:29:15) and Division I meet runners-up Marquette University (1:30:44). Aquinas College placed second in the College Division with 88 points, followed by No. 16 Lewis University in third with 151 points.

Senior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) won the individual title for the College Division and finished fourth overall with a time of 17:32.5 on the five-kilometer course. Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) was the next Skyhawk to cross the finish with a time of 18:22.8, a 19th-place overall mark and a seventh-place finish in the college division. Emily Knox (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) tallied a 12th-place tally in the college division with a time of 18:33.8, while sophomore Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) was close behind in 14th with a time of 18:41.1.

Sophomore Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) rounded out the top-five Skyhawks to finish with a time of 18:50.6 finishing 17th in the college division. Freshman Danika Wayss (Warwick, R.I./Pilgrim) earned a top-20 result with a time of 18:59.2 crossing the line 19th in the college division. Sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) placed 28th in the college division clocking in at 19:14.5.

Saturday, September 18 will see some Skyhawk runners compete in the 44th annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The men will begin at 11:15 a.m., while the women start at noon.
