Nicole Borofski and Makenzie Cyr take home NE-10 honors

EASTON, Mass. (October 13, 2015) – Stonehill College junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) have been named the NE-10 Athlete and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after helping lead Stonehill to a fourth-place finish Saturday afternoon at the New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Borofski earned All-New England honors after clocking in at 17:54.2 on the five-kilometer course Saturday, pacing Stonehill to its highest finish in program history at the event. The junior also posted the fastest time ever for a Skyhawk at Franklin Park. She was not only the first NE-10 athlete to cross the finish line, she was the first Division II athlete to finish the course, competing against division I, II and III opponents.

Cyr finished in 55th place with a time of 18:41.5 at the New England Cross Country Championships on Saturday. She was first among all NE-10 freshman at the event, and finished fourth overall out of NE-10 competitors.

A two-time NCAA All-East Region and NE-10 All-Conference performer, Borofski earns Athlete of the Week recognition from the NE-10 for the fifth time in her career following her three selections as a sophomore last fall. This is the second time this year that she's been honored with the NE-10 Women's Athlete of The Week award. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native was also named NE-10 Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of her freshman campaign in 2013. Makenzie Cyr continues her stellar freshman campaign, taking home NE-10 rookie of the week honors for the third time this season. Through Cyr's first four events, she's racked up three top ten finishes and placed 55th overall at the New England Championships.

Stonehill, ranked No. 16 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll, returns to action on Friday, October 16th when they race in the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, hosted by Franklin Pierce University at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
